A teacher a ds' school recently left. Ahem. He got great results but clearly was not suited to teaching. I think its heartening that those unsuited to the profession are picked up on a lot more now. And that the majority of teachers who are great and committed will no longer be tarred with the same brush.

When the fuck do we ever get the chance these days to hone and sharpen our biting sarcasm and ritual humiliation in the classroom?!

Ahh, gone are the 1970s days when you dreaded the gimlet stare of your Chemistry teacher who could reduce you to a jelly with one look, so you just got on with your work. Nowadays it's all inspections and acronyms, parental pressure and target grades.

I must admit, I do get wazzed off when we are given yet more life skills stuff to teach ('kids need to be taught to...!!!' screams the headlines), we are considered to be 'in loco parentis' yet I can't deal with THEIR kids like I deal with MINE. Safe to say, mine has never been a problem for anyone. I hone my sarcasm and ritual humiliation on him...got to scratch that itch yanno. Comes preloaded with the 'teacher' chip.

I am not joking...

Sensible answer to the OP...
No, of course not and no.

Interestingly the vast majority of teachers' children I have taught have been delightful and the ones who haven't have had parents who work with the school to sort situations out.

Maybe ritual humiliation works?

The reality is that children are children not angels! Schools and parents need to work as a partnership!
