title says it all really. had a hard time deciding which school to put as dds 1st/2nd choice. finally managed to decide and submitted the form. I have been regretting this ever since and am feeling like I have made the wrong choice. is there anything I can do or do I need to just hope we don't get our first choice and get into our second?
Thanks. I'm feeling very down at tge moment and this is making it seem much worse.

I think if you want to make a change now then your application will then be treated as a late application and so won't be considered until all other on time applications have been processed which could ultimately mean that you don't get either your first and second choice if they have both been oversubscribed schools in the past.

Firstly, don't beat yourself up over this. You made the best decision at the time, there is still time to see if you can change - just not yet!

Because of the "late application" rules you should now wait until 3 March and see what happens. Assuming that you have got into your first choice school then you can go on the waiting list for the 2nd school without giving up the 1st choice place. If you haven't got the 1st choice OR the 2nd choice then you should be put on the waiting list for both automatically.

There is usually a reasonable amount of movement on the lists after 3 March, so I wouldn't fret too much. If you were eligible for the 2nd choice school, and would have got in had you put it first, then you should have a good chance of still getting in from the waiting list.

thanks, yes we would definitely have got into our 2nd choice as it is the catchment school and on our doorstep. I really couldn't decide at the time and got swayed by the first choice having slightly better results but I just know that the second choice will be better for dd who is bright and focused.

In my Local Authority if you get your 1st preference you can't go on the waiting lists for your lower preferences.

In that case they need reminding that you can apply for any school at any time outside the normal admissions round. So if you have accepted a place at your first choice school but would now prefer one of your other choices you can apply to that school. If your application is rejected you then have the right to go on the waiting list.

prh47bridge is right. You can go on the waiting list for a lower preference school. You automatically go on the waiting list for higher preference schools, but you have to request to go on the list for lower preference ones. This is after offer day though.

Hi, I would contact the LA directly, as well as the school. Both that I had dealings with were very, very helpful when we had to move areas (not exactly the same situation I realise). Maintaining a relationship with the school that you want to go to can make a difference. I live in the NW so I know that the race for school places can be different in other areas. My DD got a Y7 place at an oversubscribed school after offer day. Good luck to you.

Don't let this get you down, OP, it sounds as if you had two good options! A win-win situation.

What are the chances if getting into the school you put first? Since it is not your closest?
