Bilateral schools

My dd recently sat the 11+ exam and has been suggested that she apply for a bilateral school's selective stream.

I had not considered this option before and I just wondered if anyone had a child in such a place.

there are not many of them - in fact none outside Lincolnshire

never heard of them - what are they?

Oh, sorry, I'm wrong, there are seven of them in the UK

My dd sat the local grammar test, and the test for one of the bilateral schools on that list. I'm not sure in practice what the difference between bilateral and partially selective is - certainly I recognise several of the partially selective names and they are more academic schools than our local bilateral!

As I understood it from the open day: this school has 5 sets in y7, and passing the selective stream test puts you automatically in the (equal) two top sets. After y7 you have to deserve your place, it's not automatic!

You may be a bit late though? If you are interested you should investigate asap.
