Does anyone have any info on these schools, academics, admissions etc? Wondering if the train journey for DS would be worth it. Thanks

My daughters are both at Churcher's (one junior school, on senior). We are more than happy with how they're getting on. I think Churcher's is perceived to be the more academic of the 2, with an admissions exam. I think 1 out of 4 got in the year my older daughter sat the senior school exam. Not sure re entry requirements for the Royal. And the Royal only very recently went co-Ed , I think, whereas Churcher's is completely established as a co-ed for a number of years now. Let me know if you need any other info, or PM me...

Thanks. I haven't visited the school yet but it seems to tick all the boxes. Do they have an intake at 13 or is it just 11? I also have DCs that would go into junior and senior. Is it difficult going between the 2 sites?

I think there is a coach or mini-bus transfer between Churcher sites. The Royal school is also on multiple sites (although all in one town).

I knew someone transfer to Churcher for year 10. He had an hour or so train journey each day.

The Royal School not just any school with Royal in its name.

lovetoski · 21/10/2013 07:58

There is a mini bus transfer from the senior school at churchers to the junior school in the morning and afternoon. Lots of children get the train into petersfield or use the schools bus routes. It is oversubscribed and preference is given to their junior school pupils so only about 80 spaces available in year 7 once this taken into account. There is 13+ put only if spaces available. My ds is at churchers we are very happy with it, good sport, drama, music etc. academic but not a hot house. It is well thought of in the area.

mummytime I went to a different 'The a Royal School'. There's no need to be rude.

AntoinetteCosway · 21/10/2013 09:02

Well obviously no 'a' in the name!

mummytime · 21/10/2013 11:51

AntoinetteCosway - I wasn't being rude. If the poster hadn't also asked about Churchers which is in the same kind of area, I would have been puzzled, The Royal School does really need its THE to define it.
There are lots of other schools with Royal in the name, I can off the top of my head think of at least one in the SE apart from all the Grammars.

Sorry if I seemed rude but at 6:30 it was kind of busy here!

AntoinetteCosway · 21/10/2013 16:01

I didn't assume she meant any school with Royal in the name-there is more than one school called 'The Royal School', hence my question. Sorry if I was defensive-your comment seemed snippy.

mummytime · 21/10/2013 16:56

If you type The Royal School into goggle you get only one reference, but lots with something after it. I drive past it every week, and knew one girl there (it seemed fine). If it had started the Diamond model a few years ago I might seriously have considered it for my children.
