Which school do I put as 1st choice?

Ok so I know how this is going to sound, but it was a huge shock when we found out dd failed her 11+ on Saturday.

She is g&t for maths (school often takes her out of class for one to one maths as she is so ahead), literacy and reading.
Top of all classes, aced all practise papers, so as I say, we were all shocked.

There is another excellent secondary we all love but we would have to pay for her transport as there's another school closer to us, but it's pretty bad.

Anyway, will be ringing the grammar tomorrow to find out her school and to see if its worth an appeal, but how long does this take?
Which school should we put as our first choice on applications in the meantime?

Hi clary,
Dd would like to go to Boston High School.

I think that as dd would like to appeal, the first thing to do is speak to her current head teacher and see if they would support the appeal?
Is that right?

I need a nice cup of tea Confused

Oooh Ok I went to school in Spalding so don't know Boston so well. Do you live in the town or a village (nosey)

Whereisegg · 15/10/2013 23:55

We live in a village, I like Spalding grammar too but not in catchment even though we're pretty close Hmm

Are you still in lincs?

I think it may be easier to move somewhere without the 11+ Smile

No not lived there for a while.

Thank goodness as I personally would not want DD to go to my old school. Tho I am sure it is different from how it was... Still all girls tho

Is Boston High co-ed? Sorry can't remember.

clary · 17/10/2013 00:58

My old school was Spalding High School btw.

Yes I think the 11+ can be a nightmare, especially if like yr DD someone who should have passed it doesn't.

BHS is all girls, which tbh is something I find a bit odd, having had no experience of this myself.

I know girls do better in an all girl environment in all the research, but, well I just find it an odd thing.

I would like to come back and thank you all again for your help and advice.

We pressed ahead with the appeal which was heard this morning.
I had a telephone call less than 2 hours later to say that we had been successful.

Can't wait to tell dd Smile
