My 17 year old daughter and A-Levels September 2014

My daughter changed systems as she was in an American system but then went to the Cambridge and the school didn't adapt the system properly. Now she's writing some subjects in October/November and others next year May/June. Now i'm worried she will be a little older than her classmates as we move to Edinburgh for her A-Levels and i'm not sure if they will not mind her age. We planned to visit in January and I don't know which schools to visit as mostly go to 18 years old. Any recommendations or advise ?

I moved out of Scotland years ago but I am not sure that they do A levels. It was highers but I think they are being replaced by the new curriculum for excellence.
Hopefully someone from Scotland/Edinburgh will be along shortly.

In Scotland, my education knowledge is woefully out of date but I think it's still Highers at the moment.

I'm sure someone will confirm soon Smile

US to 14, English to 16, Scottish post-16? Poor kid. Didn't you think about this before deciding to move?

Scottish education is in massive flux at the moment: Standards finished this year, with the first "Curriculum for Excellence" cohort coming through next year. The "Higher Still" programme means that Highers are changing as well. Standards never looked that much like GCSEs, and the new CfE qualifications will be different again. The least of her problems will be her age.

Yes, Scotland has a completely different exams system than England. Apologies to anyone from Scotland if I'm wrong, but AFAIK they have highers (and take about 5) and then the option of advanced highers at this age. I think ordinary highers are the same level as AS levels in England.

Can you afford a private school?
One used to international pupils, maybe leading to IB would be your best bet.
