Which scientific calculator

Before the start of term there was a secondary equipment thread & a maths teacher recommended a cheap but good calculator (from tesco I think)

Anyone know which one it was?

I didn't get dd one as the pack said they would be told when they started which one to get but they have told her to just get any.

For us it was always the standard Casio one.

Not hugely helpful, but bumping for you, like Wink

There's a Casio, 83gt or similar, sold in asda and Tesco for about eight quid. Its one that does from ks3 through to degree level (I use it for the open uni and our school use it for gcse)

Does the school sell one? Ring the office and ask.

Get the one the school recommends.

Picturesinthefirelight · 01/10/2013 23:10

No, the school don't sell them & they haven't recommended any particular one.

My kids have about 3 different ones between the 4 of them, but they're all Casio 80something. The one I have in front of me is Casio fx-85GT PLUS which was about a tenner from Smiths, but you can get it in black, blue or pink!

Casio fx-83 or 85 sold has GCSE versions. DD1 has had hers since yr7, just started AS maths and told still OK.
Although they are marketing a fx-99 or similar for AS/A-level, school seem to think not necessary to upgrade.

smokinaces · 02/10/2013 19:55

Circular, that's the one I have and im doing degree level maths with it (only level one so far but still, tis more than adequate for gcse and a level)

trinity0097 · 03/10/2013 19:09

It was me, and it was the Casio fx83 or 85 (only difference being one is solar). By far the best standard scientific calculator on the market.

Thank you.
