Sixth form for talented singer

Does anyone have recommendations for sixth form that has a very strong music department. DD is currently working on Grade 6 singing and Grade 3 piano , in year 9 . We currently live overseas but we are thinking ahead to sixth form and a return to East Sussex. We need a school that will nurture and encourage her singing. Boarding is an option. Is she likely to get a scholarship or into a specialist music school with grade 4 piano and 7 singing? Thanks

If you do an advanced search for specialist music schools, you should find various threads talking about schools in the South East and London.
Sorry not to be more helpful - my own DCs are resolutely unmusical Grin.

Have a look at Uppingham!

To be honest, grade 4 piano is not outstanding. Grade 7 singing sounds good to me but not sure the combination will get a scholarship. I would look at all the schools in your preferred region and see what info they can give you on music scholarships and the standards they expect. Christ's Hospital School is the well known very musical school in the South so I would look at them first.

Have you looked at Hurtwood House- specialist 6th form with heavy emphasis on performing arts (eyewateringly expensive though)

Music scholarships are most often given for performance on two intstruments, in most places, so it's unlikely your DD would be of the standard required for a competitive place at most music(al) schools ( so grade 7/8 piano would be better).

That said, places like Purcell don't necessarily require formal exams so never say never.

You also don't have to look at schools that describe themselves as specialist music schools - many independent schools have great music programmes just as a matter of course - Lancing in Sussex, for instance - so don't rule out any 'general' schools as a choice.

Many, many years ago, I went to Mayfield Convent and they had lots and lots of singing.
