GCSE Physics - Crap teaching or standard practice?

Is it acceptable or the norm to teach GCSE physics by silent classroom and copying from text book with pop quiz at the end, every lesson.

DD1 is struggling with a new teacher who I met last night and found her horrible arrogant and unapproachable.

Just wondering whether to email the school regarding her non teaching style. DD1 is year 11 and physics has turned from one of her favourite subjects to one she has completely turned off from and I'm gutted for her.

I would email the head of Science first. Say you have some concerns. Try to be as factual as you can.

Thanks ThreeBee. I was just unsure whether in year 11 this was standard, although I find it hard to believe. I'll email today.

No this is not acceptable for a year 11 call the school ASAP. Its already a month into the term GCSEs are in June dont waste any more time

Poor teaching. As well as contacting the head of science or physics, also get your daughter to watch the videos on mygcsescience - my daughter found the lessons on there to be great.

Thanks poppy and hellsbellls. I've sent off an email and will point her in the mygcsescience route. Hopefully I'll not be the only parent who's had concerns.

Absolutely not. My DS was rubbish at physics but got an A* through brilliant teaching. The chap used to send jolly tweets of the day to them with handy hints ...
