Why would a secondary school lie about GCSE rsults on its website?

DS1's old senior school is stating on their website that they have a 100% pass rate at A*-C at GCSE (minimum of 5), when I know for a fact that they haven't achieved this!

DS1 has left the school this summer with 8 GCSE's but unfortunately due to his laziness he didn't get 5 A-C grades. I also know of a minimum of 4 other boys who did not achieve these results, either because they were not capable and did their best or didn't study hard enough.

I'm astounded that a school would lie in this way.

Could it be 100% rounded up to the nearest %?

KittiesInsane · 24/09/2013 11:41

Does it definitely say A to C rather than A to G?

Asterisk · 24/09/2013 11:43

This is outrageous. It must be tempting for schools to do this, but it constitutes fraud. Have you crossed checked with the official league tables? If the league tables have a different statistic, I'd ring the school up smartish to ask what they're playing at. If the league tables report 100% A* to C, there is something amiss with the statistics. Worth pursuing either way.

duckyfuzz · 24/09/2013 11:44

Or is it 5 GCSEs or equivalents at A-C?

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 24/09/2013 11:48

100% achieving five A - C, with 73% of these including English and Maths* copied and pasted from the website. Even if rounded up and I am just unlucky enough to know the only 5 pupils who didn't achieve those marks, surely they should still put say 99.8% pass mark?

Is it definitely this year's results? It might be an old set of data.

noblegiraffe · 24/09/2013 11:51

Five boys missing out is very unlikely to round up to 100% unless the school is massive. Equivalents might come into play here, has your DS got any BTECs or NVQs or OCR nationals (likely in ICT)?

100% makes it sound like they all got it and is v misleading if not.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 24/09/2013 11:58

ds1 has 4 at C including one which is an equivalent pass for ICT, so actually only 3 GCSE at c or higher. The other GCSE's were d's and e's Sad

my friends son has 3 gcses also at c, and the rest lower, hence going back to 6th form for resits.

another friends son, has 2 gcse's at a c and no other results, he has gone to college to do a level 1 nvq.

there are a few others that from talking to them the day of the gcse results I know that they didn't get them, but maybe they've been remarked? is that possible?

I cant actually find any published results except on local borough website which is * that school has given figures of 100%, on the telegraph table it says the school has 64% for 2013 but it also says 64% for 2012.

this is from the gov website but its not updated for this year

Percentage achieving 5+ A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and maths GCSEs

School
2009 67% 2010 71% 2011 67% 2012 65%

O even if they have achieve 95-98% that is huge improvement and they should have been proud of those figures and not rounded up to make it look better?

Those figures include English and Maths, the one the school said it got 73% for this year.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 24/09/2013 12:29

I'm not even sure why I am bothered about this, it was only because I was looking up a telephone number as they have been pestering ds1 to have his English literature remarked s he was 3 points off a C and to sit The ALAN test so that he will have 5 gcses grade c or above.

yes sorry I see what you mean Noble. its still 10% though so that's a good increase and an achievement to be proud of. the school has undergone huge change in the last couple of years, brand new building so the yr11's who just left have had to have 3 years of building works to contend with, plus a new head teacher, who has been obsessed with uniforms and the look. then further building works as the new head didn't like the school of the future open plan class areas so has had walls built.

I did vote with my feet and ds2 has not gone to the same school this year when he started yr 7 but has gone elsewhere. DS1 was extremely unhappy there but refused to move schools as didn't want to give in to the bullies.
