good magazines for 13 year old girls

DD1 has been subscribing to National Geographic Kids for ages but I think the time has come for a more mature mag, but one that is still edukashonal. DD2 gets Aquila but DD1 has never really bothered with it. Does anyone have any suggestion for interesting mags that would appeal to a bright ( ;-) ) girl interested in history, geography abd writing but not maths and computing?

We subscribe to BBC Focus (science based) and have recently added BBC History.
I also would be interested to hear of any writing/books based magazines.

Also, my dd used to get NG Kids but swapped to the regular adult National Geographic magazine.

Its been good value, I'd say, and as well as general interest there's been quite a lot of things relevant to her school work.

I'd rather like to get New Scientist (for me!) but it annoys DH too much for family peace so it is a train journey one atm

A friend of mine used to get Mslexia, RedValerian - depends whether you're looking for yourself or dc (though would prob appeal to an older dd interested in creative writing).

The Week is a good magazine- a weekly magazine that is a round up what has appeared in the news with comment, often comparing comments from different newspapers.

There is Wordsmith for writing but it is quite wordy as opposed to being broken up with photos/pictures.

Movellas.com might be a good website resource for teens interested in writing.

If your DD is keen on writing, we feature articles from our readers. I find that the Written By You section is one of the most popular. We are launching our second writing competition this week.

Although we are officially aimed at preteens, we do have a lot of teen readers and contributors.

Otherwise, you could look at Wordebite which is a fiction website with videos and blogs.

Mine liked flipside.

Also used to get cricket and muse which are american - [[http://www.cricketmag.com/] here] - they do magazines for a number of ages and interests.

My dd is 12 and we currently get Wonderpedia, full of interesting facts. I also like How It Works (I think it's called that). We used to have First News and Aquilla, but she wasn't so keen in Aquilla.
