Before Monday - maybe not. Although many schools include this info on the department section of their websites

I presume most schools are like ours and use different exam boards for different subjects?

If you have a dc who is doing GCSE or A levels then they ought to have a booklet from the school which sets out how each course is structured and which exam board is used. Our school has a link to these on its website.

If you do find anything on the school website, don't assume that the same exam board is used throughout. I noticed, for example that ds's school use OCR for GCSE science but edexcel for A level.

Most schools use a variety of exam boards for different subjects. If you root around in their website, you may be able to find a yr9 options booklet that may contain this info; or the exam timetable for last summer may still be up, which will have this info on.

Thanks. i will have to wait until monday i think. I am trying to be on the ball with regard to exams etc for my year 10 DD. she is less than forthcoming on school stuff, and school seems to assume we, the parents, are up to date with it all.
I am ancient and all i know is its not just one final exam in year 11

Have you got a calendar from school for the year yet? Lots of schools have a fairly early parents eve for yr10 (before Christmas) and this is a good chance to find out this sort of info if you don't have it already.

kilmuir · 07/09/2013 20:08

no not yet. that would be very useful. Would it be ok to contact the teacher directly if necessary.
I do appreciate that in year 10 my DD should be finding out stuff for herself but i have given up nagging!

Try school website or GCSE handbook?

Email head of year/call That Mother Who Knows Everything. She's probably already downloaded the past papers.

Grr. And good luck!

DS has just completed his GCSEs. I think he took exams from 4 different exam boards. Fortunately, the school issued us with a booklet detailing all the GCSE subjects and which boards they used. It was invaluable when trying to buy revision guides from Amazon. Even when you know the exam board for the subject there are different syllabus options within that. I really wish they would simplify the whole system. I was brought up in Wales, so only sat WJEC exams.

OddBoots · 08/09/2013 17:06

Ours were listed in the options book that they had back in spring, did you have one of those?

For what it is worth I'm under the impression that my y10 ds will be doing most if not all his exams at the end of Y11 unless he does maths a year early.

Many schools have a Year 10 Information Evening for parents in the first few weeks of term, check the school website in case a letter has been 'mislaid'.

I'd head for the website and download the options booklet which should show the exam board as well as the specification (well it does for the dc's school)
