What targets did our Year 7s achieve?

I'd just be interested to compare the targets our Year 7s achieved. Not because I want to boast, or worry if my daughters aren't as good as someone elses - it's more to get a feel for which subjects she's striving at or struggling with. In primary school it was so clear, but can't tell how she's done.

The results are: English 5.5, Maths 5.75, Science 6.25, Fine Art 4.5, French 4, Games 3.25, Geography 4.5, History 4.25, IT 4.25, Life skills 5, Music 3.75, RE 3.75, Spanish 2.5 and DT 4.75. I realize some subjects will be lower for different children as they are being taught as a new subject.

Didn't your school tell you what it all meant?

no idea what the .75 is etc we just have 6a/b/c.
IMO the subjects she doing well in are the higher marks but hard to say where you started from.
For example if DD left with a level 4 maths and now level 6= good, left with level 5 and now level 6 maybe not so good progress then there is SEn etc to consider.
Comments should help you too

Don't get these numbers here (Scotland). A detailed subject specific report running to 7 pages for my just-finished-s1 dd1.

I'm not entirely sure numbers are that helpful?

imnotmymum · 02/07/2013 14:31

Comments on the report I mean obviously mumsnet comments are very valid too ...

I got a report with all these numbers in. I couldn't make head nor tail of them, or what they meant in real terms. So I bought DS some chips and said well done then forgot about it Blush

Performance data is National Curriculum Level (3-8), so just been doing a bit of research. This is what I've found:

It is hoped average Year 7s will achieve, but can be a level up or down:

Technology and Music Level 3/4
MFL 3
Most other subjects 4 (I guess this excludes maths, English and science which have been taught and assessed for a number of years).

Last time we had parents evening we particularly asked if she was doing okay in every subject or if she was struggling and didn't get much info back other than "all looks well".

.25 means sub-level c, .5 is sub level b and .75 sub level a. So 5.5 is the same as 5b. 5c for an average kid would be fine for subjects they've done before. New ones such as languages and DT will be lower.

Art: 5a
Dance/Drama: 5a
DT: 5a
English:6b
French:4c
German:3a
Humanities:6b
IT:6c
Maths:5a
Music:5c
PE:4b
PSRE:4a
Science:6b

Those were her attainment grades for her report which was given out mid May & therefore written in April. We have since had a parents eve & in English, she is now a 7a/b so proving these grades are but a snapshot of a particular time.

Not familliar with the 0.25 increment system either, I would say speak to the school, although I've given you my dd's grades, I do think you run the risk of trying to compare apples & oranges tbh.
