Will it look bad if my DH doesn't go?

I sent the reply form in to say that we would both be attending but he's found something more exciting important to do that night Hmm

As long as one of you can make it, I'm sure no-one will be judging, it's often difficult for both parents to manage to get there. But if he is not treating it as important, make sure he does the next one and it doesn't become default "women's work".

No one will notice or care. Secondary schools have 100-150 new parents. Lots will be have at least one parent at work, looking after younger siblings, be divorced and avoiding partner or simply forget.

Madmog · 12/06/2013 14:35

I don't think anyone will notice or care, unless you can take your son or daughter and they would like him there as it's an important time for them. When we went there was a general talk and question time. I wanted to ask about the uniform separately as I knew I'd have problems getting some clothes the school wanted as my daughter is tiny. My husband was with me, but he just stood there.

In my experience, one parent is expected, two is a bonus!

Secondary schools only really get worried when no one comes.....

OldBeanbagz · 12/06/2013 20:54

Well it looks like DH won't be missed next week then Smile

He's been to the school 3 times already and has met the headmaster so it's not like they don't know him.

Why has he been to the school 3 times and met the HT, if your dc hasn't even started yet ? Confused
We've still not had any information from my dc's new school.

schooldidi · 12/06/2013 23:05

I've only been to dd1's school 3 times and she's at the end of year 8. I have met the HT though because he used to be deputy at the school I teach at. Dp has never been to any parents evenings yet, as I'm more knowledgeable about education things than he is, being a teacher.

Nobody will know or care that your dp isn't there. The forms you fill in are purely so they know you will all fit in the hall if they're anything like our school.

Picturesinthefirelight · 12/06/2013 23:17

We didnt go on Monday because we've changed our mind and dd is now going to another school.

The lack arrived in the post today just as I posted the letter saying she non longer wants a place.

OldBeanbagz · 13/06/2013 08:43

BackforGood 2 x Open Days plus our own school swimming gala held in their pool.

The head is very approachable so DH was 'chatting' to him about his anti-University views!

We couldn't go at all. Schools know not all parents can make it, and ours had a good handout that they emailed to those who couldn't attend.

If one of you can get there, that's fine.
