High Wycombe girls grammar schools - moving to area, please help

Hi All,

We are moving from the Chester area to High Wycombe. We have two daughters aged 10 and 12. Our eldest is currently in grammar school year 7. She comfortably passed the 11plus.

We are hoping to find a place for her in year 8 at a grammar school in High Wycome and have seen both the WHS for girls and Beaconsfield HS.

Obviously we are about to contact the education authority as next steps but I was wondering if anyone could advise if this will be a relatively easy transition or if these schools won't have capacity and thus long waiting lists? We are really worried that our daughter will move from her existing grammar and be unable to find a new one.

Many thanks.

I believe she would have to go on a waiting list as demand is high and I think some may still do a 12+ intake. Worth speaking to either the relevant schools or LA direct to see how they handle in-year admissions.

info here . You are too late for the Sept 2013 12+ intake though so worth calling to ask what you should do to try to get in before 13+.

I think moving into the area may count as exceptional circumstances (see the in year admissions guide) and your DD will still be able to sit the 12+. I think that it is still the same test for both schools. However, both schools are likely to have filled any spare places for Y8 now and so if she passes it is likely that you will have to go to appeal.

Try this forum for more information. And good luck, they are both great schools.

I would also try Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in Marlow. They administer their own 12+ test and are also likely to be full. But it's another option for you from High Wycombe - co-ed though.

Talk to county asap: although your child passed 11+ somewhere else it doesn't count for Bucks.

FYI BHS is the only county-administered grammar now, all the others are academies and have their own admission policies and late entry requirements.
