Sackville or Imberhorne East Grinstead for academic ASD DS

Hi, hope someone here can help! We're currently considering moving to East Grinstead and were wondering if anyone can shed any light on how good the SEN provision is these two schools? DS1 is very bright but has attention problems, no behavioural difficulties but very scatty and disorganised, currently on SA+ but likely to be SA by the time he hits secondary school we think, as long as the school is experienced with children like him.

Are there any mainstream schools that are good for ASD kids in/around East Grinstead? Any that we would need to avoid/be wary of? We are keeping an open mind so any feedback would be useful.

Both excellent schools - So says a friend whose DD went to Imberhorne but whose DS went to Sackville. Friend lives in Crawley Down & hasn't heard a bad word about either.

Have you been to visit yet?

Not yet - we haven't definitely decided to move there as yet but my parents live nearby so it's a hot contender.

I went to Sackville for a couple of years when I was much younger but it must have changed hugely since then and I didn't have some of the extra challenges my children have so I knew it from a different perspective - not even sure if we'd ever heard of Asperger's at the time!

The only word that existed for pupils with SEN was 'naughty'! My DH is very dyslexic & he had teachers who destroyed his confidence. Thank goodness some things have improved.

Hope you get a current opinion, but the only way you're going to be able to make a choice is to feel the school for yourself. I doubt any school would mind you visiting & asking questions before you make the decision to move?

I totally agree on the improvement Grin!

I was feeling that it would be a bit cheeky to ask to see the schools since we hadn't actually committed to moving yet, but you're right, it probably is the only way to really get to know them so that we can make an informed decision.

No experience of SEN side of things but my 3 go to Sackville as did I many moons ago....so I would definitely recommend it.

A couple of friends have children in SEN and they've never said anything bad about it.

Thanks Mrs! If you see them and they're willing to PM me with their experiences (positive or negative) at all I'd be very glad to hear from them.
