We are moving back to the UK (from the US)within the next year and need to think about which secondary school will suit our son. We will be mov g back in time for him to start senior school. He has adhd and mild aspergers which basically means he has a hard time making friends and focussing in class. Our experience is that we need a nurturing, caring school that will support him with social situations and help him focus in class and get organized. We can pretty much move back to any area in Sussex or Brighton and will do that for the right school for him and would love to hear from any parents with experience of these issues in the secondary schools in this area. We are open to state or public, although we will struggle to make the public school fees but we will if it is the right place for him. We have experienced unhappy school years in the past for him and can not face going through that again. Can anyone help???

I understand the The Bourne Community College in Southbourne, West Sussex is really good for children with aspergers. I think it has a new inclusions unit for children with Autism.

BACA in Brighton used to have a facility for pupils with ASC. Check on their website or with the school as it will have more experience with pupils facing such challenges. It's an academy & used to be called Falmer School. Patcham House in Brighton, is a special school which takes pupils with Autism also.

Forgot to add another special school; Downs House in Portslade, West of Brighton. Has close links with PACA (another academy owned by same organisation as BACA. I think Downs & Patcham are federated schools.

Thank you all, I think we really want to keep him in a mainstream school, its what he's used to and as long as he gets support with friendships and focus it works well for him
