DS is obviously taking it all in his stride and I am quietly fretting investigating the practicalities of high school life. Anyone want to join me?

OP posts:
mankyscotslass · 03/09/2013 17:21

DS is home and happy, he enjoyed his first day.

loveinthemist · 03/09/2013 17:39

Hurrah... First day went very well and DS came back very happy and full of stories. Big relief all round.

Takver · 03/09/2013 18:24

All went well here too - and DD has a birthday party invitation for tomorrow (!)

IslaValargeone · 03/09/2013 19:46

Went well here too.
Apparently she is going to be the best student the school have ever had and has decided she is going to be Head Girl when she is in the 6th form.
For now she has put her name forward for notice board monitor Grin

mankyscotslass · 04/09/2013 11:40

DS said he feels sick today, but I think it is just nerves, and once he has been through the timetable for a week he will be OK. He was on such a high yesterday when he came home that I think this is just a reaction to the stress.

He had homework last night, he had to write a book review, but he isn't sure if he needs to do it separately on a piece of paper or in his English book. It needs to be in for Friday, so he is asking the English teacher in his Thursday lesson. He has written it out in rough anyway, so on Thursday just needs to write it out neatly when he finds out..

He has signed himself up for after school football tonight, so all good so far.

OldBeanbagz · 04/09/2013 12:35

I'm officially not needed Sad

Saw PFB off on the bus having been sacked from the job of taking her on the first day in favour of travelling with her friends.

I expected her to text when she got to school and she promised to text me at lunchtime. So far NOTHING!

I hope she's seriously having a great first day while i sit here counting the hours until she's home!

InMySpareTime · 04/09/2013 12:51

I wasn't even needed for the first school run! He went out of the door without a backward glance.
School is apparently "Meh", but pretty much everything is these days so it could be anything from amazing to disastrous.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/09/2013 12:59

Not PFB but PLB off to secondary this morning with his big sister.

Hope he's having a good day .... he found a friend to walk in with (as well as his sister) so that was good to see.

mankyscotslass · 04/09/2013 13:52

Well no phone calls so I am assuming he managed ok and the feeling sick wore off. I told him if he still felt under the weather to just come home on the school bus, and not to go to the after school football, I have a feeling he may be going to the football. Grin

CoolItKittens · 04/09/2013 16:43

DS1 had his first full day today...he loved it! First maths lesson tomorrow which he isn't looking forward to at all but so far so good! He did admit to leading half the class up the wrong stairs because he thought he knew where the ICT room was, apparently they're calling him 'lost Lucas' now Grin

mankyscotslass · 04/09/2013 17:26

DS1 did not feel up to going to football after school! Shock

He has perked up after a shower and wants to go to chess club tonight.

He got more homework!

Takver · 04/09/2013 19:20

Opposite here, CoolIt - DD is deeply unimpressed about Welsh first thing Monday morning on week A - but reconciled because they have two x maths Monday morning week B.

She was very excited about her first science lesson today - I suspect she will be deeply disappointed if they aren't issued with a lab coat and bunsen burner straight away Grin

OldBeanbagz · 04/09/2013 20:55

DD had a fab day though was a bit Hmm about the pudding at lunchtime.

I got the rundown on all her new friends and the boys who got told off today Shock

Lancelottie · 04/09/2013 22:24

Well, after an entire summer of fretting, DD strolled out of school beaming.

'It's fine, mum. And I'm sitting next to this really nice boy, and he's called Luke, and he's really nice, and there's Eleanor, she's nice too, but Luke is just sooo nice, ooooh...'

WTF? DD usually regards boys as another species. This is not how the first day was meant to go!

Lancelottie · 04/09/2013 22:24
  • Names changed to spare Luke's blushes.
Marmitelover55 · 04/09/2013 22:46

My DD1 had a half day induction today - first full day tomorrow. She has been v v excited but came out a bit tearful and worried that she won't remember all of the important stuff she was told today. Hope she has a good day tomorrow.

DollyTwat · 05/09/2013 08:39

My pfb has grown up in 2 days!
He's up and showered before 7, made me a cuppa in bed this morning, breakfast eaten and a LOT of Lynx sprayed about!
He wasn't impressed he had to lug 2 lots of pe stuff in today, but he went off happy

Lancelottie · 05/09/2013 10:02

Uh oh. Second day in, and DD was late.

She'd practised cycling the route, but never in 8 o'clock traffic. DS takes 20 minutes to do the trip, DD somehow took 45!

SonorousBip · 05/09/2013 10:41

I'm another one who feels their PFB has really grown up in the last few days. He has a bus journey on his own which he has really taken to and the independence has really boosted him. I'm hearing good things about the lunches, they've had a team building day etc. Not heard anything specifically about new friends, but that will come in my view, he was a reasonably popular boy at primary and has a cheerful and friendly nature. He has volunteered to be the class rep, which somewhat surprised me but I was delighted that he wanted to have a go.

So, all good with us so far. Bound to have some wobbles over the next few weeks, but a nice solid start.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/09/2013 17:17

DS came out saying today was good, better than yesterday (first day)
Oh good I thought, he's actually going to tell me something about what happened ....
"I had lunch today, yesterday I only had a teeny pot of pasta" Grin

Just like at primary lunch is the most important thing - and the only thing I can get him to tell me about. When he was little I used to ask "What did you have for pudding ?" as a fail-safe conversation starter Smile

Takver · 05/09/2013 19:38

Very good day here, too - dd is in the same set for science as her bf from primary and they got to set fire to magnesium Grin

Lancelottie · 05/09/2013 21:54

Yes to the magnesium here too -- and DD says some girls spotted her sitting on her own at lunchtime and said 'We saw you on your own, do you want to be our friend?'

Yes please!

Marmitelover55 · 05/09/2013 22:30

DD1 had a much better day today too Smile She was not looking forward to RS but shed lived it. Seems to be slog lord about philosophy these days. She is really looking forward to double food tech tomorrow, although slightly concerned she hasn't been asked to take in any ingredients...

Marmitelover55 · 05/09/2013 22:31

Oops - text problems again on phone - really must bother to previews next time

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/09/2013 10:29

RS - "slog lord about philosophy these days" Confused Grin
