£50 here for a meal at a country club type place that does weddings. That is only part of the expense though - the dress is more expensive. Very glad that the current trend seems for them all to go in a big group on a double decker bus which they hire!

ds's was last year - nice banqueting suite at a local(ish) place. No transport, but 3 course meal and dancing afterwards, and they all had a professional photo to bring away at the end of the night, included in the ticket price or £30.

Are they leaving school, or expecting another at the end of Y13?

It's all so different nowadays...

I've discovered that the "official" prom is at the end of Yr11, even where quite a few are staying on into the 6th form. It then appears that there is another, less official prom at the end of 6th form, but this is less formal as they have to pay for their own outfits and tickets. Wink

Is that the very last year of school? 17/18?

£45 here in Scotland. Meal, 2 drinks and dancing in a posh hotel.

The £64 prom is for the leavers of an 11-16 school with no sixth form. They have to go to 6FC in the next town if they want to do A levels.

Ours is about 25 quid-but they have been fundraising. that includes a decent carvery and pudding. But the (soft)drinks are sooo expensive. (wine was worse-for us of course) The last one i went too was in the day of Big Fat G dresses and we couldnt understand where all the sellotape was coming from-until we walked in on on girls unwinding the sellotape from their thighs holding the hip flasks. Seriously, they dresses were so big they could have hidden litres of Smirnoff up there.

DS1's school - £30 a ahead at the Racecourse. He doesn't want to go.

The school I work at - £0. The kids fundraise and the school put the rest. It goes on attendance and behaviour as to who gets a prom pass. I already this morning took two phone calls from worried parents that their DC were poorly and they wanted to know how it would affect the pass. Last year money was also found for a couple of prom dresses/shoes/accessories for two students who were able to go but the parents didn't have the funds for food/bills let alone dresses.

£25 - includes reception, travel to venue, two course meal and disco.

We subsidise anyone who can't afford it, and have been known to buy prom dresses, pay for suit hire etc. Several girls borrow jewellery, shoes etc from staff.

Posted too soon

We could do it cheaper but the kids choose the venue and so costs vary. Everyone has to travel by coach - no limos allowed - which keeps the cost down for them, too.

£39 - held at a nice hotel in the city centre, 3 course meal and yearbook included.

Travel to and from the Prom, additional drinks at the bar following the initial (non alcoholic) cocktail, eyewateringly expensive dress, shoes, undies, make up, hairdo, nails, handbag and jewellery all very far from optional! Grin
