roisin · 15/05/2006 18:57

Sixth form ... what a lovely concept Grin
We do just 11-16 education here, and most of the yr11s have suddenly transformed into delightful, pleasant, motivated creatures ... just before they are about to leave!

Blandmum · 15/05/2006 18:59

I think that year 8s are worse than y 9s.

My sixth forms are fab. My year 11s are wonderful and I will cry like the rain at the end of the year. Mind you 42 of them are doing Biology next year! And I'm teaching them all!!!!

Something aamazing seems to happen to Year 11 in the summer before they come back into the Sixth form - they turn into human beings!

Maybe it's because the ones who return are the ones that really want too, then again some Year 11's are great, I'm going to the wedding of one of my old tutor group in the summer, she left in 2000 and we still msn.

Hey, maybe we should have a roll call!?!

Me - I'm a science teacher in a grammar school, doing mainly chemistry.

As a parent, I have a child in Y9, and one who is in Y7 but still in prep school, plus a bunch of primary aged kids.

scienceteacher · 16/05/2006 19:32

Someone told me recently that Y8s are officially worse than Y9s in terms of detentions and other school sanctions.

In the first school I taught in, Y9 was a nightmare - absolutely awful. In the school I am in now, I have good classes in both years, but I think there are some bad Y9s that other teachers have to put up with. I don't really dread any of my classes, but that could change when we move to our new timetable after half-term.

Blandmum · 16/05/2006 20:30

I think that year 8s are the worst, and that the begining of year 9 is as bad. Then the hormones calm down a bit, and they realise that they have SATs and have to choose GCSEs etc and that is a bit of a reality check

How come cod did not complain about this new topic? No surprise to see MB here though.
