Sponsored (Forced) Academy Converter - School Uniform Question

Perriwinkle · 19/03/2013 20:53

My question is, if the uniforms changes, which people feel it is bound to as the received wisdom seems to be blazers and ties = raised standards and success, will there be money available to provide existing pupils with a new set of uniform?

As parents, we have not been consulted at all as this is a forced conversion so I assume that any policy on new uniform will be up to the sponsor, which is another local school that has blazers and ties.

Has anyone any experience that they could share on what has happened to them regarding new uniform when academy conversion has been forced on the school?

I would stress that this is a school in special measures that is being forced to convert, not one which is converting voluntarily.

My catchment school bought all the kids there on the day of conversion a set of uniform, but no others
Faffing with uniform is the SMT equivalent of arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

I would expect the school to phase in the new uniform with those already there wearing the old one until either they leave or grow out of it. The new uniform should be expected of new Y7 pupils but no others.

That's not always how it's done, tapdancingmum, and I get the impression that schools converting to academies are least likely of all to do it that way.

A (primary) school near us bought blazers for all its existing pupils.

When we converted, we provided uniform for all existing students and all those joining in Yr 7. The whole lot - even though the basic shirt, trousers/skirt was staying the same.

Thanks everyone.

From what you say, I'm hopeful that one set at least might be provided - well, the main bits i.e. blazer, tie and the logo-ed jumper that goes underneath, if not the trousers/skirts/shirts (which I wouldn't necessarily expect to get really).

I have heard that some schools provide a full uniform but other just offer a subsidy towards it and you still have to pay something.
