Hmm DD has been given an invitation to an awards evening, a printed invitation, and this is across the top of it.

Don't know quite what else to say really, other than how depressed it makes me feel.

Why depressed? Confused

freddiemisagreatshag · 12/03/2013 10:20

Epic fail on the spelling front

happygardening · 12/03/2013 10:31

I literally cant spell anything with more than two syllables but even I know these words were spelt wrong (even if I cant spell them correctly!).

chibi · 12/03/2013 10:34

I am a pedant. I have never yet corrected a school spelling mistake. I don't think I could let this one pass though :(

sandyballs · 12/03/2013 11:18

I'm not sure I can let it pass either. It's just really shit isn't it. I know teachers are human and they have off days but something as important as this, on a printed invitation. Surely if spelling wasn't their 'thing' then they would get it checked and double checked beforehand.

My 11 year olds were laughing at it for goodness sake.

No no no this really is lame. I would correct it with great alacrity. Contact the designer and tell them how rubbish they are. I would.

GreatUncleEddie · 12/03/2013 14:35

I'm sure you can correct it nicely. But it kind of undermines what is supposed to be a celebration of excellence, doesn't it. My 11yo would laugh at it too but then he is the son of a pedant

Kez100 · 12/03/2013 16:39

Back in the 70's my brother had extra english lessons. Mum chose an english teacher from his school who he liked and who did tutoring. The first spelling list to learn - 20 spellings and 3 were wrong! I'm no pedant (I can't be with a dyslexic son) but there are times it just isn't acceptable because even a dyslexic must use strategies like spell checks or peers when doing something so public!

CloudsAway · 12/03/2013 19:13

but last year maybe it was "do to yer comitmint improovmint or preformence", so probably this year they have actually showed 'improvment'?

I agree, that is pretty scary though.

sandyballs · 12/03/2013 21:33

I think I'll email school and point it out. Surely I can't be the only parent who thinks its very poor for a school.
