Required to repeat if failed in exmination ?

My son planned to study in Year 9 in coming September. ( still waiting for the reply from an independent school, southwest of England ( since it is in Christmas Holiday ). Will schools required their students to repeat in year 9 when failed in examination ? Is it common is UK independent schools

Ah, I assume you are abroad? UK schools don't usually do a fail/repeat year system like some countries do. So, if he is the right age for year 9, he will go into year 9.

Sorry, my son is studying in H.K Secondary Two ( as in Year 8 in UK ) and planned to study Year 9 ( waiting the result from an independent school in South West of London ), In H.K. students are usually requested to repeat one year if they think that those student are not upto schools' standard. I am afraid that this event will be the same in UK independent schools, as you know that school fee for oversea students is a big burden for family and a new studying and english speaking envoironment cause a great pressure for new broaders at the beginning and we think that students need time to catch up their works.

In UK independent schools there tends to be an entrance exam. Once in the school you will progress through the years by age not ability. If you are not good enough you will be asked to leave. However if he is not starting until year 9 they will be assessing whether he is good enough to stay until end of year 11 now. Hope that makes sense.

It would be unusual (but not unheard of) for children to be out of their correct school year. An English school is highly unlikely to put much weight on some exams in a foreign school.

Only know of it happening at a parent's insistence. As said by others, if your son has been accepted then I shouldn't worry.
