Just a quick question. I often read that taking these 2 subjects is somehow easier because it's only really the same time needed as studying for 1.5 A levels. Please can someone point me in the direction if the report that says thus?
Many thanks.

SecretSquirrels DS wants to do English lit, History, Film Studies, Maths and Further Maths which seems quite an eclectic mix. He wants to do English at university and then go onto screenwriting but is also very good at Maths. The maths department want him to have a go at further maths and DS seems keen even though it is of no benefit to his future plans other than perhaps keeping his options open. I suppose it will help his Maths even if he drops it at some point in year 12.

My DD will be doing Further Maths next year. At her school, it counts a a fifth A-level and they timetable it in the Critical Thinking slot, which is half the time of any other A-level.

I was told that they can use less teaching time because so much of the work is done by the students independently.

The Cambridge comment is a bit hmm. Obviously, if you have an affinity for a subject, you are going to find it easier. If you had a foreign parent and were therefore bilingual, you would find that language pretty easy. If you are particularly talented in Art, Music... Why should mathematicians have their skills devalued?

My DS did Maths, Further Maths and Physics. He go five good offers from Russell Group universities. His offer to UCL for Engineering was BBB. They were obviously happy with his A2 choices.
