Ok. First term year 7 finished. Have you heard anything from the school?

I've had a letter congratulating me on his "good" attendance and asking if there's anything they can do to help me get it to "excellent" next term.

That's it.

Anyone?

A meet the form teacher evening with senior staff and the other parents also present, including a presentation. A full set of effort grades to see that he is on track. Independent school, mind.

We had a meet the form tutor evening last week. Where he said he was happy with dd's attitude and work. He had no concerns. He asked if I had any questions, dd was there and he asked her if she had any problems. I forgot to ask how she did in her CAT tests but I know she's in top sets for everything so I guess she did ok.

Form tutor evening, detailed feedback about any concerns about him settling in, 'top line' subject feedback.

Lots of marked work in books so can see he's doing OK.

Oh, and an SEN letter about some small group thingy in registration time - good pick up by form tutor of his ASDness, as it's not been causing problems but she sees that it could, so is dealing with it proactively.

We had a form tutor/head teacher presentation a few weeks in for general information. A typed progress report was sent home regarding subject levels and then on Friday dd and I attended a target setting meeting with form tutor to discuss where she's at and where she's going iykwim. I'm impressed so far Smile.

DD is In yr 8 now, but gets half termly reports with NC levels, targets, effort grades for each subject. I think it's a lot for the teachers to produce every 6 weeks tbh & I'd be happy to have it termly, but it was reassuring to have some communication from them in the first half term of yr 7.

DD in Y7. We've had a Y7 engagement evening - Senior teachers and welfare type bods inc SEN talking about the school and what additional support is available, a drugs awareness evening, an IT safety evening, a meet the music tutors, and finally a form tutor evening.

(I feel like I've been at the school more than she has!)

Meet the tutor evening incl time with Senco. Weekly email from Senco with feedback from a variety of specific lessons particularly core. Half term progress report with effort, attainment, homework, organisation and attendance grades.

Independent school, though, chosen for its pastoral and communication reputation. Phew!

seeker what is the differnece between a six term year and three terms with half term holidays making six teaching units? I'm a teacher and I've never heard of this.

I thought that most state schools called them six terms now not three (ds's ind school does say three terms)?

my tutees have had effort grades and a social/meet the tutor evening. Emails/phone calls to some, replies to any who have contacted me, more contact with those with sen. Individual meet the tutor appointments after half term.

We've had a meeting with form tutor and a full set of effort marks and grades for all subjects, also details of CAT and other tests and how she achieved in these against average.

Local state comprehensive.

He's had two days off. Once because he was vomiting, and once because he had been awake most of the night coughing.

He's never had two days off in any one term before- excellent attendance at Primary, so he won't be on the radar. I know what sets/streams he's in because they have a complicated number/letter system that a friend who teaches at the school explained to me. Apart from that, no information about academic stuff at all.

Yep, I know, chandon. It was the attendance letter attendance letter did it- if they hadn't sent that I would be much more laid back! But I couldn't stop myself thinking that if they could calculate every child's % attendance and send out letters, they could have used the time to tell me something about his maths!

Yes, we had a report with a few short lines about each subject, and a number out of five for effort and behaviour (no SAT levels) and then a meeting with the form tutor to follow that up, just quick five minute job,

I would expect a bit more tbh, I hope they ask you for feedback on the starting year 7 process soon so you can say this!
