Secondary education

Year 7 DD has brought a new friend home, is it the norm to have to ignore them completely after saying hello!

As DD says i am beyond embarrassing for asking her 'new friend' such intrusive questions as:

What primary school did you attend?
Are you enjoying secondary?
Pasta for dinner, is that ok for you?

Most odd Grin

My dd ONLY speaks to me when her friends are there. She changes into this lovely sweet chatty child and I'm all gruff and suspicious because it's so unusual. All her friends must think I'm Horrid Mum.

Luckily my daughter has four really good friends from primary school who are used to coming here and me chatting. I know all their Mums and they are the same.

Haven't had any new ones yet. Like you, I'd certainly be asking them a couple of questions, partly because I'm nosy, but also to help them feel welcome and to ensure I give them food they like. I've always wanted to be approachable to my daughter's friends. I do leave them pretty much to it now, but sometimes one will come down asking me for something which I'm glad they feel able to do.

Don't forget to use their full name for maximum effect: Hello Benjamin, how are you? Annabelle, would you like another coca-cola?

God help DS when he starts school, I've already got his "embarassing mother" card marked

I still take new friends to see my mum and she quizzes them. I'm 22!

I have told her the next boyfriend I get she can wave to through a window Grin

So you mean DS will stop telling his friends to ask his mum anything -she's nice and kind - eventually?

Great Grin I sometimes feel I'm running a cafe/ therapy centre/ art gallery.

He is only 8 though!
