New Year 7s - how long is their school day?

My dd has just started Year 7 at a girls indie and its been a big change getting used to the longer day.

She now gets up about 6.40am, leaves the house at 7.30am to get the school coach. Her school day is 8.30am - 4pm (finishes a bit earlier on Fridays) so she doesn't get home till about 4.40pm.

I'm curious to know if this is typical at secondary school.

Start at 8.40. Finish at 3.15. Lunch is 45 mins. Lunch can be a difficult time, so shorter can be popular for this reason.

DS leaves the house at 8 for a leisurely dawdle with his friends to his school a 15 min walk away for an 8.30 start. They finish at 3.15 and he seems to get home again at about 3.40, except there are lot of after school clubs until 4.30 or 5,30. I'm glad his day is short as the homework is hard to fit in around seeing friends, doing clubs an other out-of-school activities. He is exhausted in this run up to half term.

Was getting up at 6!at the start of term but now rises at 6.45 , out of house 7.15 for 8.30 start .Lunch is a leisurely 12.50 -14.00 as most clubs run over the lunchtime . School ends at 4 , home 5/5.30 .

up at 6 solely to grab a bathroom slot, breakfast 6.30 out the door 7.30, train 7.50 first bell 8.20 registration 8.30 finish 4.00 train 4.15 home by 4.30 -

This is us, DS is at our nearest GS......Up at 6.15, leave home 6.45 (after breakfast and bathroom mainly squirt of deo and toothbrush!), bus 7am, school 8.25 to 3.25, bus 3.45, off bus 4.40, home just before 5pm,
