Edexcel,OCR,AQA etc...what are the differences between the boards? Is there a hierarchy ie,which have the more rigorous syllabus? Should this be a factor when one comes to making choices for secondary school education?....confused.com :)

I don't think this is something for a parent to worry about.

Heads of Department will review which exam board to use when the specifications change every few years, so what they use now may not be the one you child experiences.

In any school, there will be a mixture of boards, as HODs will select their courses independently.

The differences between the boards is usually to do with how modules are split up, and how the board communicates with schools. With the disappearance of modules, there will not be as much opportunity for boards to stick out.

Finally, Mr Gove is going to make an announcement this week about having one board for English, Maths and Science.

On the whole the differences between exam boards seems very marginal imo. The syllabuses all have to be centrally approved and so all cover largely the same material.
