My faith has been restored. My son was upgraded by 2 grades- just in his English paper, from a D to a B. A little bit of justice seeing as all his other grades were stunning! AQA may be fair with remarking.

Wonderful! Gives hope to the rest of us.
You must be so so pleased.

SecretSquirrels · 04/09/2012 16:27

A relief to you I'm sure.
That was quick. When did you ask for a remark?

MaureenMLove · 04/09/2012 16:36

That's great news! Well done to your DS, he was clearly marked very badly, to have jumped 2 grades!

roisin · 04/09/2012 16:51

Wow! That's incredible. I wonder what went wrong there; they must have not marked half the paper to make such a difference in grades.

Brilliant for your ds!

Kez100 · 04/09/2012 17:25

Well done. What awful original marking

circular · 04/09/2012 18:00

Great news - well done. How ong did you wait for a re-mark?

BringBack1996 · 04/09/2012 19:37

That's fab news, well done! Do you think it could have been something 'simple' like the examiner missing a page or adding up wrongly? I'm sure that sort of thing does happen, especially with such a bit jump in score. He may also have had a grumpy, sleep deprived examiner the first time!

I think AQA are trying to make up for all they've done by doing the re-marks efficiently as DS has already had his maths and went up a grade :)

I wonder if there would be less marking issues if they had more examiners. It seems that they are really stretched at the moment, leading to mistakes being made.

breadandbutterfly · 04/09/2012 22:04

Marking, esp in English, is v subjective. It shouldn't be but it is - standardisation should reduce that but there will always be stricter markers and more generous ones. It's an art not a science.

Different in maths, obviously - that's just a mistake by the examiner.

zamantha · 05/09/2012 08:39

It took about 10 days to remark.

Dear B and B,
Marking in English is more standardised than you think - it is amazing how many teachers at standardising mtgs come up with same marks - there are criteria.

Well done to him. It doesn't inspire confidence in the exam system though when mistakes of that magnitude show up - makes you wonder how many dc simply accept their wrong grade.
