I've just shoved dd out the door. She was in tears just before I did, she's so scared. Managed to try the tears so she wasn't actually crying as she left. She was shaking so much this morning she couldn't do her buttons up!

And yes, she looks tiny. Sad

VivaLeBeaver · 04/09/2012 07:44

dry the tears not try!

gazzalw · 04/09/2012 07:45

Yes, Catwoo! Our DS's blazer has been bought to last for the three years he has to wear that colour one and it does look rather over-sized! Luckily he has been able to migrate some of his primary school shirts and trousers so some bits will look just right and some will be over-sized! But you should see his science overall - it looks like a dr's white coat and it fits me - and it's the smallest size!!!!

Good luck to DCs everywhere, making that big leap to secondary school ;-)

I am normally a bit of a hard nut but this morning he does look just like a little dot.
Good luck everyone.

Iwantacampervan · 04/09/2012 07:57

DD2 starts tomorrow and I thought that she was fine but we've had a couple of upsets over trivial things recently. Last night she was getting concerned about where her locker would be - fortunately today we can chat to a friend of DD1 who will be in year 8 at the school. Hopefully the first day will go well as she really enjoyed the induction day.
Good luck to everyone (parents too!)

Snowfire · 04/09/2012 08:19

DD was up at 06:30 and out the house by 07:40! She doesn't have to be there until 08:30 & school is only 20 mins walk Smile
I'm hoping this enthusiasm lasts, she had a lot of worries but spent a week doing activities at the new school over the hols & was much happier after that.
Hope all your DC come home happy!!

bossboggle · 04/09/2012 09:30

Have driven my neighbours DS to senior school this morning (about 6 miles away) and Lord does he look tiny - and that's amongst the other year 7's!! He looked immaculate in his suit and tie (yes I did say suit and tie!!) that's what they're wearing!! Grey suits and very nice too!! He says it's fiddly but he'll get used to it - best wishes to all of the newbies at senior school today and to all of the parents I wish you a good day and not too many nerves!!!! I remember it well!! Best wishes to all!!

bossboggle · 04/09/2012 09:32

I rmember when I started Grammar school (all those years ago!!) and I WAS TERRIFIED!! You see them all going in the school gates and it sort of wings you back all those years!!!! My heart goes out to them.............

bossboggle · 04/09/2012 09:32

Er that should say remember!!

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 04/09/2012 09:53

Good luck to all new starters!

My DS started today and me and Dad are sitting here like nervous wrecks! School bus arrived late and didn't do the return ticket as the company said, so it completely threw DS who promptly got off the bus (after giving the driver his money) saying he didn't have enough to get home! It's been sorted but will be much happier when he's home if he remembers to catch the right bus back and hasn't lost his money

Too early for Wine?

And yes, big blazer on our little lad....from the oldest in the school, to the youngest! Guess everyone is in the same boat

JustGettingByMum · 04/09/2012 11:24

Dd started today too.
Hope it all goes well.
Vivalebeaver Sad - sorry to hear your dd was so scared. I hope it all goes well and she has a lovely day

Ninjahobbit · 04/09/2012 11:44

I will be in here tomorrow my DS starts then....I have to teach him to tie a tie Hmm and will be spending most of the next year teaching him how to remember what he needs for the next day, reminding him about homework, dealing with 'issues' that arise... and anything else I have forgotten Confused

LIZS · 04/09/2012 11:52

dd goes tomorrow for an induction day ahead of the rest of the school which starts back on Thursday. She met a few of her classmates at the weekend so is more excited now and spent yesterday trying on various permutations of uniform while I labelled. Haircut booked for later and then pick up last few items.

bizzey · 04/09/2012 14:12

ds 1 started today...I took a picture of him in the playground...he looked very smart...even though his hands were MISSING from the end of his new blazer sleeves !!!!

Going to meet him soon to see if he can remember his route home !!!!

Possibly left a bit tooo early this morning ....arrived at 7.45 ..for a 8.30 start !!!Grin

Startailoforangeandgold · 04/09/2012 14:19

Yes, she does. especially as I took her photo with DD1 who is a head taller.

DD1 also, looks much younger in her school uniform trousers, than her holiday tight jeggings or short skirt.

Yesterday the station master wanted to sell her an adult ticket (she's 14, it's just she's taller than me. He was being a bit daft as she didn't even have make up on).

The HT is having a war on short skirts so DD2's is much longer than she'd like and, as I said, DD1 decided to wear her trousers. As her skirt while pretty much the longest in the class is still strictly too short.

Good luck to everyone else starting this week and to all the big siblings like DD1 starting GCSEs etc.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 04/09/2012 14:20

My PFB was up at ten to six this morning just to make sure he didn't miss his bus. He got himself sorted, and ran out the door without looking back. He does, however, look like Annie Lennox in his blazer. Shoulderpads are in, baby. I have spent the day anxiously ironing and hoping that a bigger kid doesn't flush his head down a toilet. T-75 minutes

BadRoly · 04/09/2012 14:25

Dd1 started this morning - we live 5mins from school, somber bf came to call for her and off they went. Unfortunately, the blazer that swamped her when we ordered it in July, fits rather nicely today - glad I've another dd to go up in a few years :D

BadRoly · 04/09/2012 14:26

So her best friend is what I meant to type...

minesawine · 04/09/2012 14:51

My DS does not start until Thursday but is really nervous but wont talk about it. He is very snappy and stays locked away in his bedroom with his PS3, saying it will be the last chance he EVER has to play it. I am struggling with the dramatics but know that by next week he will be fine. Fingers crossed!!! Confused

VivaLeBeaver · 04/09/2012 15:46

DD has come back all smiles. Laughing about boys messing about on the bus. She's been chatting to some girls she didn't know before and they seem nice. She had "stuff" for lunch and is happy as she's been allocated French not German.

catwoo · 04/09/2012 15:47

Gosh home already mine doesn't finish til 4!

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 04/09/2012 16:10

Wish mine didn't! I think they finish at 3pm, 2pm on a Wednesday.

Ladymuck · 04/09/2012 16:59

LIZS you weren't at a barbq on Sunday were you?!

gremlindolphin · 04/09/2012 21:33

My dd started her new school today. She was so nervous but came home happy, she likes her form teacher, has a key to her locker and likes the other girls in her class. So relieved!

I was also happy as other Mums seem lovely and I was asked to go for a coffee.

Dd now looking forward to tomorrow and other dd goes back to school too. The morning is looming!
