Hello fellow mums net users. Could anyone enlighten me as to the quality of kevicc s hook in totnes Devon. I am not looking for the best school academically, my DS will be year six next week and we are thinking of moving to the totnes area later this year. He loves performing arts, media, visual arts, golf, acting and singing so kevicc seems the perfect choice, I am looking for somewhere where there is Not a reluctance by the school to deal with bullies, he does seem a bit prone to being bullied. I am happy to consider locating anywhere between Exeter and Plymouth, so any advice would be welcome.

The OP is asking about a school in Devon

Totnes is really close to the Torbay area and it is entirely possible that someone living in Totnes would go to school in Torbay, especially if they wanted to go to one of the grammar schools.

However, the other schools are not plagued by the grammar school problem as such. The issue is that you used to have to live within catchment to get into one of the three Torbay grammar schools but now you appear to be able to live in Cornwall and attend TGGS, TBGS or Churston. That is the problem. The catchment was a 3 mile radius in the 1980s and you had to be in Torbay itself.

Torbay has a lot of poverty but not much funding, and that is one of the reasons for the poor performance of its schools. TGGS has just turned into a private school you don't pay for.

I only know good things about KEVICS but my knowledge isn't up to date.

(and I don't know anything about Ivybridge but maybe someone will be along soon who does)

Don’t you have to sit an exam to get into the grammar schools? it would be an in year admission.

If your kid has mental health issues do not send them to kevicc. Its a chill school but the teachers are dumb with kids problems. Theyll leave your kid whos had sh problems in a room with sharp objects after a panic attack. (safety room)

Look at Kingsbridge Community College. It has served family members really well over the years . Unlike other parts of Devon , South Hams itself doesn’t have a private sector to speak of . Most kids from primary go into the local comprehensives . It’s a lovely part of the world ( I don’t live there but a lot of my family do ).
