Results for CAs done in Year 10

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to this.
DS has finished Year 10 - just about to go into Year 11. During Yr 10 he took loads of assessments: controlled assessments, MFL writing / speaking assessments, English speaking & listening assessments, drama assessments etc. as well as 1 maths module in Nov, and several modules in June.
Some of his teachers told the class what they had acheived in their CAs, others did not. At parents evening, 1 teacher gave us a grade for 1 assessment, and the French teacher said something along the lines of 'although the writing assessment was not brilliant, they had had to submit it anyway'.
So, when DS went in to school on Thursday to collect his results, I was expecting him to get results for both modules and assessments, however he was only given the results for the modules he had sat in June. Is this right? Does he have to wait until the end of Year 11 for results of assessments he took at the start of Year 10?
TIA

If they didn't submit the results to the exam board, they won't appear on his results slip.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm still confused. Is it usual to do assessments in year 10, then not submit them? And, why would they do this? Does it mean he will have to re-do them? And why did his french teacher say she had submitted his writing?
If they're not going to submit them until Year 11, why not do the work in Year 11, when they will be older and have had more time to learn the subject?
It all seemed much simpler when I did O'levels!

I, personally, think there is far too much exam work going on in year 10. It makes far more sense to do CATs when they are more mature, and have more knowledge and skills.

What an individual school does is up to them, but they also have to follow the requirements of the exam board. If more than one CAT is available, perhaps your school is planning on having another go in Year 11. If it were me, I would do them just before the Easter holiday.

About submitting - the teacher may have been planning another all along, so waiting for that and then submitting the better mark.

The submission rules for GCSEs for this cohort only (Y10 going into Y11), is that more than 50% of marks have to be submitted when cashed-in (ie June 2013).

If they are submitting 2 externally marked modules in June 2012, November, January/March, they will need to hang onto the CAT till June 2013.

Knowsabit I thought the final cash in had to be 40% in the exam series that you wanted to go for certification?

You are right.

It means that it has to be two modules of a four module course.

OK, I think I understand now. So, by not submitting CAs in Yr.10, they have more flexibility in Year 11 for re-doing CAs/ sitting modules early etc.
Thanks again for the explanation.
