GCSE German coursework mark puzzle

I am looking for a little guidance for DD here after receiving GCSE results today.

She has got an overall A for German with results paper showing Bs & Cs for coursework. She is a bit puzzled by this as the marks she was originally given by the school for the coursework were A*. Is it likely that this coursework has been moderated so far down?

DD has asked in school about this but as she is leaving I don?t know if they will really do anything. What steps does she need to take please? Does she need to request a remark?

All advice gratefully received.

DD's school ended up with only 10 taking German so the sample for the speaking paper was all 10.

Exams manager said that they would all have to be remarked if one was to be remarked. The school isnt keen, IMO probably because this would risk their already woefully low ebacc score.

GnomedePlume - when my daughter was in that position last year - that one remarks means all remarks - I was told they'd be unlikely to get agreement as every child has to agree to the remark and sign to say they accept a fall or rise in grade. Anyone with a score they are happy with it wouldn't sign, so they wouldn't be able to even do it.

I didn't take it any further but it seemed unfair!

Re: writing, edexcel French : I also thought it was a controlled assessment in school so would be marked by the teacher but I actually asked them face-to-face and was told that no they do them in controlled conditions but they are marked by the exam markers at Edexcel. Hence the schools reluctance to give me any grade at all.

Thanks Kez100, I expect you are right with added pressure from the school to not even look into this in case their ebacc drops further.

What DD would like to get from the school is an explanation of what happened. Her teacher pretty much said that she was a nailed on A. To drop an internally marked A down to a moderated C looks to me like a monumental cock up somewhere along the way.

Well, it looks like the answer is that there isnt really an answer.

The school wont request a remark as this would mean remarking for all who took the paper. The teacher came back to us and was very open and honest with us so I have no complaint there.

DD came away with an A so with her agreement we are leaving it at that.

It is a disappointing end to DD's time at that school (she has gone elsewhere for A levels).

Thank you for all the insight and assistance.
