Rewards for results?

Are you giving your DCs presents or rewards for good results?

I'm not sure what is expected. DD says she doesnt want anything but that seems a bit mean. In my day (400 years ago) it was £10 per pass.

My DS has just got a 2:1-we took him out for a meal.

I've never heard of this before. When I did well in my exams I got a "well done, we are so proud of you" Smile
I didn't expect anything and I was over the moon with my results anyway.
I feel that a lot of children nowadays only do things if they think there will be a reward at the end of it, surely this will only lead to disappointment later in life?
There is no better feeling than a sense of achievement and pride anyway.

If you want to buy your DC a gift, that's fine, but I don't think bribes/rewards work. The reward for the effort they have put in, is the the grade.

DS worked very hard, so we gave him a reward then, at the end of the exams, long before the results came out. although he hasn't technically received it yet

I am taking dd out for a meal tonight as she has done so well in yr 10 results, against all the odds.
She doesn't know it yet, but there are 2 theatre tickets with her name on too.

The celebration afterwards shouldn't be mentioned first as a bribe IMO. Surely a 15/16yr old wants to do well for their own sake? If you have -'well I'm only working for £200 an A grade' they may as well leave school now. They should be doing it for themselves and not mother.

i spent £5 on one portion of filet steak from the butcher, (we had sausages!)for dd's tea last night, she loved it.Her sister got a cake . Each to their own.
