AS results day - are they supposed to collect in person?

I think DS gets his AS results at the same time as yr 13 collect their A level results (tho' I may be wrong), ie on 16th August.

He'll be in Newquay, and DH and I will also be away in Italy.

Does it matter? I'm assuming that it doesn't, and that he can just find out when he goes backin September, but another mum looked horrified when I mentioned it casually today.

Am I supposed to panicking? I really hope not.

They are supposed to collect in person, but our school say they will post if not collected. You can also arrange for someone else to collect the results if they have a letter from you (best to arrange this in advance). Check on school website.
AS results come out 16th Aug, but i think A level is a week later.
It does matter, because if the results are really bad, school might not allow him to continue the course, and you'll need to have other options planned.

AS and A Level results come out on exactly the same day.

At AS level, it is unlikely to cause many problems (DS will probably be able to get his results over the phone anyway) but it would be wise if he decided to collect his results next year in person, as there is potential for things to go wrong with uni admissions.

As Boomting said AS and A level results both come out on 16th August.

When DD1 collected her AS results last year there were members of the 6th form staff available should students want to discuss their results. School policy was that a minimum D grade was required to continue to A2.

Students who cannot collect results in person could have them posted, collected by a representative or phoned to them if they made arrangements in advance. Check the school website to see if they offer anything like this.

OK,thanks. He's expected to get AABC so unless he's massively cocked up he doesn't need to be there.

I'll get him to email his HOY and ask for them to be emailed or posted.

thanks all

Where i used to work, they would only release them to the strudent personally or by post if they provided an sae. If someone else wants to collect them, they need a letter signed by the tudent giving them permission. You can'[t even give them to a parent without the student's permission in writing.
If he wants to ring up, he will also need to have given noptice of this beforehand in writing. An email will not be ok as it will have his signature on it and it could have been written by anybody.

I also doubt they will email them as it takes ages if lots of students want it, plus it is too open to errors and lack of confidentiality.

I am pretty confident that he has been told all this information very clearly repeatedly. Why has he left it until now to sort out?

mumblechum1 · 02/08/2012 18:22

MNistooaddictive because AS levels don't really matter as much as A2 levels, I guesss.

Worst case scenario is he gets them when he goes back in Sept.

DD not around to collect hers either. I think she will get them at start of term unless they decide to post them out, which I dont think they do .

LondonMother · 02/08/2012 21:10

I'd be a bit concerned about that - what if you want to get a paper re-marked? A2 re-marks get priority for obvious reasons but you don't want to be slow off the blocks with an AS re-mark if the UCAS application has to be in by October, for example, or if it's going to affect whether the subject concerned can be taken on to A2.

mumblechum1 · 03/08/2012 15:09

He knows he's dropping Chemistry, in fact has stopped going to Chem lessons, and as the AS doesn't count towards the courses he's looking at it, it's not really important.

tbh I think I'm mildly concerned, ds is not remotely bothered, so ultimately if he's messed up seriously badly he'll just have to retake and hope for the best.

He's predicted AABC and the course he wants at Manchester Uni is only BBB so there is some leeway.

Check the school website/learning platform - lots of schools make results available online; if yours does, you just need to remember to take the login details with you.

ClaireRacing · 03/08/2012 18:49

Each school will have its own procedures, but it is wise to be in school on results day.

His results may impact his A2 choices and this will need to be discussed with his tutor.

He may wish to ask for a remark or for the paper to be returned, and would need his tutors advice on this.

It is the holidays for teachers as well and some may only be in school for 2 or 3 days around results day, and not on call for students returning from holiday.
