the report sent from primary to secondary school.
My ds starting secondary this Sep. and I heard that their primary school send reports about children to the secondary school that they will start.
Do you ever get to see them?

It is mostly done verbally so there is nothing to see a copy of. This way, the teacher can give their real opinion and not have to put it in a way that can be shown to parents.

All copies of past reports are sent to school in September but they are very rarely read. If a child is causing concern, the year 6 report may be looked at to see if this is anew thing but otherwise they are left alone.

Our school has them in writing. Not sure whether you can ask to see them, ring and check!

You're entitled to see any records the school hold on your child under the freedom of information act, although the school is entitled to charge an admin fee for providing you with a copy.

Should imagine similar to report for parents. Never thought about it. Just be general info I should imagine

Most schools just send a copy of the annual report that is sent to parents. Our school sends the whole of the child's file, so all reports from R to year 6, plus all the other info that school holds on your child since they started in R. You can ask to see this file at any time. When children move abroad the parents usually collect it to take on their last day as it's rather expensive to send! There is nothing contentious generally written unless you were a parent who wrote lots of letters of complaint. These are in the file along with the HT replies. Some children's files are thicker than others!!

If not on the special needs, register, then they would just get a copy of the school report that goes out to the parents. Some schools to a stronger transition where they come in to talk to the Yr6 teacher to see if there is anyone they should be keeping a closer eye on (example I had where a girl's Dad died while she was in Yr6). They would share information to enable the Pastoral system in the secondary school to be on the ball and ready to support.

Does anyone who works in school offices know, when would be the best time to ask to see it? Is less hassle for the old school to show you, or wait till it gets to the new school?
Also, would the fact that the parent requested to see it be noted on the file?
