Predicting GCSE Target Grades from KS3, anyone?

Hello.

My ds has had some of his levels for KS3 as he's asked his teachers, but we're waiting for the termly report card to completely clarify. I'm sure other parents are in this situation, and I'm sorry if there are a lot of these threads.

KS3:

Maths: 8a
English: 7b
Science: 6a
French: 6c

Does anyone know, roughly, what they would equate to, GCSE target grade wise?

Roughly A*, a secure A and a B.

As long as he keeps up the effort to the end of y11!

My dd just got some results year 8 SAts and told 8=A, 7=B at GCSE ETC not sure it an exact science though

BonnieBumble · 02/07/2012 11:27

What year is he in now?

noblegiraffe · 02/07/2012 13:57

8A in maths at KS3 you would expect an A* at GCSE. But with all the fiddling that Gove is currently doing to make things harder...who knows.

Is this end of KS3 as in end of year 9?

Just clarifying, my son's school has a 2 year KS3 so he's about to start KS4 in September when he goes into year 9.

imnotmymum · 05/07/2012 14:41

Same here Folk My DD starts her GCSE September also so just had her SATS results for that now.

Depends on how the school set the targets as there are a number of methods - but at my school that would be A*, A, and 2 B's - although the languages one would depend on how long he has been studying it etc.

And what a fantastic set of results, you must be so proud of him.

I though SATs had gone? Last SATs dd did was in year 6.

TroublesomeEx · 06/07/2012 13:13

ibiza - not sure if you're referring to what imnotmymum said, or just the general reference to levels.

The children are levels using the national curriculum levels (e.g. 4a) throughout school from year 1 onwards. I think imnotmymum was using SATs as a short had for the end of year assessments.

balia · 06/07/2012 16:32

Externally marked SATs are gone - but secondary schools still have to report an end of key stage 3 National Curriculum level to the dfe so most schools do an examination of some kind. Then the teachers have to mark it all as well.

Mainly A/B with the odd A* and possibly C
