How to get into Coloma??

We stood a good chance previously but looking at new criteria of distance being the decider (we meet all other criteria) I am not so sure anymore. We are not a huge distance - just under 4 miles, but it wouldnt surprise me if there were 150 girls meeting the criteria who live closer. Even further from St Philomenas.

That leave me with pretty poor choice of secondary schools in my local area
or going for Wallington girls. We know several people who have children in Y4 who are already tutoring at weekends for superselective entrance exams and never wanted to do this really but maybe we should.

worriedaboutschool, don't be too put off by the knowledge that some people tutor from Year 4. You know your child and what works best for them. I found that my child did not require (or want) any formal tutoring but did respond well to informal sessions at home on exam familiarisation.

Worried - if you feel that you will get top points with Coloma, I think your dd will get in. My dd is in year 6 (going to phils this september) and the 1st time round was 'top marks' for coloma. But, lots of girls got in the 2nd time round, i.e. with less points. St phils (as you probably know) don't do a point system and from what you have said would be in the top category. St phils went to about d or e category this year so if your dd can manage the journey, is an option. We went to look at wallington girls and both my dd and i didn't get the right feel for it so did not take the test.

Hi
It's not the journey that worries me it's the distance criteria. That's interesting about going to the second round. I assumed that they get filled up with those who meet all the catholic criteria - early baptism, holy communion and church every week. Now it doesnt even matter whether you chose catholic primary.

Phils still work on feeder schools but apparently Coloma has taken from 137 schools. It is an interesting one this year though as Coloma has always acted in the past on 'what you/your dd does for the parish' etc. so i agree that distance plays a bigger part this year.
