Maths whizz levels

Anybody has any idea as to whether the maths whizz levels truly reflect the national curriculum levels? DD is 9 years old and in Y4. Her maths whizz level is 11.5. She is in the middle group for Maths in her class because some in the top group have already started in ratios/proportions and even algebra.

They do match the curriculum.

Whizz covers topics that quite often get missed or rushed at school. A,lot,of,children are capable of working at a maths level higher than their age, and it could be there are a group of children who are good at maths.

One thing I would say apart from I do think Whizz is an excellent programme, that because it is computer based, children don't always understand how to translate that knowledge on paper because school tests are worded differently. This is why paper based exercises are just as important.

I wouldn't focus too much on the maths age.it isn't important. What is more important is to redo lessons to improve times and do the revisions to ensure she fully understands all the concepts. Whilst it is great to rush ahead,o a lot of,this knowledge will be forgotten because she won't/might not do it at school for a long time.

Talk to,her teacher about her strengths and weaknesses. What issue good, bad at at,school and does this reflect on whizz.

Sorry about all the commas. On an iPad and it adds, changes alsorts.

Your Dd also has t be able t show the teacher that she can do certain topics but quite often they don't get the chance to

Hey, thanks a lot Iamseeingstars. My daughter is ok in maths. However there is a group in her school that is miles ahead of the national curriculum. I cannot help comparing and worry that my daughter will somehow get left behind. Hence the focus on the maths age!

I don't know anything about maths whizz, but I can't see how it matches national curriculum levels if it is giving a level of 11.5 - national curriculum levels only go up to 8.

Giving an age doesn't make much sense to me either, children can be a wide range of levels even at a given age.

Sorry for the confusion. I should have said that her maths AGE (and not level) is 11.5.

Whizz gives different maths ages for all the different topics and then gives an average across the whole curriculum. Some topics may be very low maths age some may be high. It depends on each individual child and their ability. It is also a good way of checking which areas your child is good/bad at. The maths age for each topic is based on the curriculum year they are working on on Whizz.

Will have a look at that site mentioned, Thankyou

Had a look at Zoowhiz, it reminded me of Education City. Its a great little package but you are now limited to only a few exercises a day on the free programme but you have to register to premium to see what the full package offers.

It is not a teaching programme, it is just an exercise programme, whereas Whizz.com teaches you how to do the maths and will take you through the stages if you get the answers wrong.

They are completely different packages and are not comparable.
