Private schools - do any of them allow a relaxation of the dress code in summer?

Just to preface this by saying that I don't condone rule breaking or rebellion against school rules, but eldest daughter is struggling in the hot weather to stay 'done up' as the school dress code demands. On the warmest days I did help her to do her tie with the top button undone but hide it with the knot, but she was worried that it would become visible.

I just wondered whether it was usual form for normally strict schools to allow pupils to do this, and whether anybody else assists in this surreptitious 'rule breaking'?

DS school have relaxed the blazer rule for the past couple of very hot weeks. The boys tie rule apparently is reviewed daily, but most teachers allow lads to remove their ties during lessons. This was much as it was at my rough old comprehensive 100 years ago.

At the senior school attached to the school my dc go to girls wear an open rever collar shirt no tie throughout the year. They wear a skirt suit and I see plenty of them carrying their blazers not wearing them in hot weather.

Mutteroo, you're my vintage then!, not many of us left around Wink

We had shirt sleev order at my school in summer, once it was announced then sleeves were rolled up (neatly) and blazers removed, it could not be removed that summer term.

DS1 is at a prep school which has allowed ties off and top buttons undone (they wear short sleeved shirts with summer uniform anyway. But they didn't allow it last year under the old head.

DS hasn't had his top button done up for years - or worn the school jersey (would rather have a tshirt underneath). In summer they can have short sleeves and I think he has simply left his suit jacket at home for the last three/four weeks and no-one has commented.

DD has a summer dress and they are allowed to carry their blazers in hot weather.

Yes

All my DDs have a different uniform from winter to summer, so it's not a huge issue.

DD1,2 and 3 wear kilt, dark tights, shirt, tie, sleeveless jumper and blazer in winter. In summer they wear a navy skirt, striped blouse with revere collar, socks/tights, sleeveless jumper and blazer. The blazer is used as a coat in summer, and hung up during the day whilst on school grounds.

DD4 wears a kilt, dark tights, shirt, tie, cardigan and blazer in winter, and a summer dress with socks, cardigan and blazer in summer.

I must say though, I'm a bit skeptical about needing to adjust clothes. I work in a profession which requires a dark suit, collared shirt, dark tights and a robe. DH is required to wear a suit and shirt and tie. DH has had to wear this sort of thing in hot countries on business (think Dubai, Saudi, etc.) Neither of us have died yet. If it's a uniform with a shirt, blazer and tie, it's not really much different to what you would wear to work in a lot of professions. Maybe I'm a hard hearted Hannah though!

At our school the boys wear ties all year round - no exceptions. The HM stands out on the playground as children arrive - welcoming them all by name and he'd let them know if they weren't up to scratch.

The girls wear ties from October half term to Easter. For the warmer months they are in their summer dresses so ties not a hassle. They wear blazers when moving around school and whenever they are out of school but in lessons they can take them off.

In very hot weather (ie last week) ds' allows undone top button with no tie but it has to have been formally announced.
