Hi,
My son is autisic and also a type 1 diabetic and we are hoping to move up to Birstol from Exeter this summer. My son will be entering yr 7 and I know this will be very challenging for my son. Last week a few people suggested Bradley Stoke as a very good secondary school. I have checked it out and it does seem to have a very supportive ethos. I am writing to ask if anyone else has any information regarding this school and also to ask about its location. I have noticed that it is really close to the motorway...what is the air quality like in Bradley Stoke? And...is it very noisey with car drone? I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot. I've never been there before and i'm just trying to get an idea before I go and check it out. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I live in Bradley Stoke so can help you with some of your questions! My children are primary age and although I am a secondary teacher, I don't know too much about the school other than Ofsted and a bit of local 'chat'! It has a good reputation and is always oversubscribed, so they must be doing something right! First set of A level results this year, so will be interesting to see. I think you would have to go and visit to get the relevant information with regards to provision for your sons needs, although a quick conversation with the SENCo may at least give you an idea of whether they already cater for autistic children, how they meet their needs etc...
As for the area itself, It is not overly noisy - with the wind in the right (wrong?) direction you can hear a faint traffic noise if in the garden. There are obviously some roads which are a bit closer to the motorway than others - and I probably wouldn't have bought a house in one of those! But the majority is absolutely fine. I have just stood in my garden to test - there is a faint hum but the birds are much louder!! Its all modern housing of up to 20 yrs old, so the whole spectrum of housing styles, from flats to 5 bed detatched. They have left some green spaces, and its really easy to cycle or walk around the whole area, as there are lots of off road pathways/cyclepaths. Couldn't tell you about air quality - but it doesn't seem bad to me. I teach fairly locally, and only a handful of children have asthma - no more than I would expect normally. Hope this helps a little. Anything else I may be able to help you with ask away!
