DS is doing A levels (hopefully!) in geog, history, biology and economics. He is wavering a bit though as there are others he would like to do too!

IdontknowwhyIcare · 08/05/2012 05:24

Ds will be going to 6th form at his current school, no alternative 6th forms here. He is doing a level history, economics, Govt & politics, philosophy and eng. Subject to his gcse grades obviously. We have no plan B.

luckylavender · 08/05/2012 10:31

Ds will either go on to Sixth Form at his current school or the local Sixth Form College - hopefully to do Bio, Chemistry, Geo and Sports Science

Ladyemem · 08/05/2012 11:19

at the moment my dd is planning on also going to 6th form for A Levels.
Probably choose 4 of the following. Art,law, psychology, PE or Applied ICT or business Btec. Not sure is she is making the right choices. She does know what she wants to do after 6th form. I'm worried they will be too hard for her. She's predicted b's and c's in her gcses.

Dd is going to another school for 6th form (her school doesnt have one).
Shes doing alevels in biology, history, psychology and french which she plans to drop after yr 12.

She wants to go to Uni to do physiotherapy

glaurung · 08/05/2012 11:33

dd has decided to change schools for sixth form and will do A levels in physics, chemistry, biology and maths (but may swap maths for RE or Geography). At the moment she wants a job in healthcare eventually, but not really sure what.

DameHermione · 08/05/2012 11:37

DD is staying at current school sixth form and doing International Baccalaureate. Although she still hasn't decided whether to do history, P&R or Art for one of her choices.

Kez100 · 08/05/2012 12:37

Photography diploma at Art College and a bookeeping job in the holidays.

She is predicted D's and C's. (But they were E's, she has worked really hard!)

SecretSquirrels · 08/05/2012 12:59

DS going to 6th form college (none of the local schools have a 6th form).
It's huge and will be a big change from his small rural comp. Hopefully a good stepping stone to university.
He has been accepted for Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Geography. He plans to do just AS in geog. Wants to do Physics degree.

trish391971 · 08/05/2012 13:02

DS staying at his current school and subj to grades doing Maths, Economics, Geography and Chemistry. 1st exam this week is Maths on friday. Good luck to all DD/DS out there.

bruffin · 08/05/2012 15:38

DS has not decided to stay at current school or move to another 6th form. He is waiting to find out whether he has a small 6th form scholarship aimed at children who want to study engineering at university, but it is transferable to the other school as they are afiliated to the scheme.
He will most likely take Maths, Physics and Chemistry. He would love to take History or Philosophy but is dyslexic and a bit scared of long essays.

RiversideMum · 08/05/2012 17:55

DD is taking history, French, classical civilisation and maths. They also have to do critical thinking or general studies. Thinking of history/french degree. Staying at current school - their 6th form is not selective.

MaureenMLove · 08/05/2012 18:05

DD was given a conditional place at her 6th form back in January. Conditions were that she got A-C in Maths and English. She did both of them early and got the grades so she's in.

She is taking Fine Art, Photography, Physcology and one other to be discussed on induction day in June.

She has indicated that she plans to try to get an apprentiship with a photographers over the course of the next two years, but I have suggested she should at least do a year of 6th form before doing that.

She has also said that if she gets nothing concrete at the end of yr 13, she's buggering off to our favourite Scuba diving centre in the Med to work for a few years!Grin

Enjoy life, I say. You're a long time dead!

glaurung · 08/05/2012 18:42

Nice to have an unconditional offer Maureen Grin. Dd still needs her grades (which should be OK), but has heard the new school will probably be lenient if she misses as she's had disrupted teaching this year (which sounds worse than it actually was, but it's nice they are making allowances).

sue52 · 08/05/2012 19:40

DD will be changing from a selective girls school to a mixed boarding school (her choice). She will be taking A levels in English, Maths, French and German. After school she plans to study Linguistics.

I'd love to bugger off and scuba dive in the Med MaureenMLove.

BackforGood · 09/05/2012 22:50

ds is going back into his school's 6th form - A-levels, 4 from Govmt& Politics, History, Eng Lit, RE and Drama if he gets the right grades in his GCSEs.

bruffin · 09/05/2012 22:56

I think Ds has an unconditional offer from his own 6th form and has to get 5 Bs for the other school.

busymummy3 · 09/05/2012 23:09

Reading with interest and was just wondering those of you who have DC's in a school with a sixth form how many are staying and how many are going to move to another school with a sixth form and reasons for doing so ? Just wondering as this may be a possible for my DC next year (or this September the visiting sixth forms will start !)

bruffin · 09/05/2012 23:15

Ds had not made hid mind up yet. He says the induction day may be the clincher.
He said the reason for moving was to get out of his comfort zone.He does have friends at other school but all in year above

BackforGood · 09/05/2012 23:20

Well, ds is staying as he likes it at school, and they can offer the subjects he wants. He never wanted to look at anywhere else, tbh.
Technically, it's not exactly the same school. His school (Yrs 7 - 11) is a boys' school, and the 6th form is a joint 6th form with the girls school round the corner, so some of his subjects will be there and some at his school.

glaurung · 10/05/2012 00:08

dd left once at the end of year 9 because she wanted a change rather than because she hated it. Then her new school went bankrupt, so part way through year 11 she ended up back at her old school! So now she wants a change again. Fortunately for her she seems to thrive on change - I just hope it works out better this time.

Mutteroo · 12/05/2012 04:14

DS is leaving his co-ed boarding school and has a firm offer at a local sixth form college to study; Maths, further Maths, Physics and Computer Sciences. He'd like to take a year out before attending university and is considering jobs in the financial market. Ideally he'd like to own his own business and knowing DS, he probably will!

Glaurung, don't worry too much about DD. My DD's school merged (went bankrupt and was swallowed up by another school) when she was in year 11. Fortunately nothing changed for her as the school closed/merged at the end of the summer term. My daughter started sixth form three times and has now realised she's happier working. They all find their path in the end.

RiversideMum · 12/05/2012 06:34

Didn't occur to DD to leave school - she loves it and keeping her sport going was a key driver in the decision!

Clareyst · 12/05/2012 11:47

My son is going back to his current school's sixth form to do Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and History (will probably drop to 4 after AS). There are a lot of sixth form options here, but he insisted he didn't want to leave. He does a lot of extra curricular things and his current school is a short walk away - anywhere else it would have involved journeys on public transport and eaten into his free time, so I think he's made the right decision.

cardibach · 12/05/2012 22:16

DD going back to school sixth form to sudy (probably) English Lang and Lit, Biology, Art and the Welsh Baccalaureate. Sixth form entry requirement is 5 A*-C.
