Last day of school before gcses!

Just received letter from DD's school confirming that Friday 11 May is the last day of timetabled lessons before gcses begin. If she wasn't hoping to stay on for the 6th form (depending on whether she gets good enough grades) that could feasibly be her last "proper" day at the school.

I can't believe 5 years has gone so quickly Sad. She's already had her leavers' sweatshirt and Yearbook and suddenly gcses are upon us.

Anyone else wondering where the time has gone?

Sorry knitted not Kez

MaureenMLove · 05/05/2012 23:52

First day of term Kez. It's not compulsory education, so it's fine to change your mind. At my school and the surrounding schools, there are two days of registration on the first two days of school in September.

They can't guarantee places until then, because although students have said they are taken a place, they could still change their mind between 23rd August and 1st September.

Should we start a new thread about the exams? Wo is taking what on what day, so we can send positive vibes to all our DC?

SecretSquirrels · 06/05/2012 10:05

IdontknowwhyIcare yes we need a GCSE thread.
Who wants to start it?
I think I'll need hand holding more than DS. He is looking forward to growing up and setting off into the brave new world.
Sniff.

empirestateofmind · 06/05/2012 10:14

Good idea IDKWIC- do you want to get the ball rolling?

I don't feel like YR to Y11 has gone quickly- it seems to have been a slog sometimes!

However like Getorf and Seeker I can't think about DD1 leaving home in two years time. It makes me feel so sad, especially as she will be at University thousands of miles away Sad.

BringBack1996 · 06/05/2012 11:51

I don't know what I would do if DS decided he wanted to go to university abroad, I would be heartbroken :(

bruffin · 06/05/2012 12:16

seeker
Just realised our dcs are going to be at Thorpe park at the same time.

Kez100 · 06/05/2012 13:33

IdontknowwhyIcare · 06/05/2012 14:06

Well done kea. Sorry I popped out otherwise I would have started. See you over thre for tea biscuits wine and whining ;-)

TheOneWithTheHair · 06/05/2012 15:25

Is there a link please? Or a title or topic I can look up?

I have a feeling that it will be a lifeline thread over the next 6 weeks or so.

glaurung · 06/05/2012 15:45

GCSE 2012 thread

TheOneWithTheHair · 06/05/2012 16:36

Thank you. :)

empirestateofmind · 06/05/2012 16:41

thanks glaurung!

DS leaves this summer. Last GCSE 27th June. No official study leave (boarding school) but has permission to stay at home and study from 19-27 June. Last day of term 29 June. Sixth form induction day is first week of July.

Yes it feels weird but exciting as no more fee invoices every term!

Kez100 · 07/05/2012 16:17

Ooooohhhhhhh all that dosh spare

(for a couple of years until Uni starts!)

IdontknowwhyIcare · 09/05/2012 16:33

last day of compulsory education for Ds tomorrow. Study leave starts, just back in school for exams adn then 6th form in September. Gulp, my little baby all grown up. Feel like sobbing already ;-)

petal2008 · 09/05/2012 19:58

At Ds's school there are timetabled lessons and revision sessions in the school day and after school right up until they finish the last exam which is good I think as he will still be in a school environment while the exams are on. I'm not sure study leave is a particularly good idea - I can't remember doing much studying on mine and am pretty sure DS would be the same!

glaurung · 09/05/2012 20:12

study leave works well for some but not others imo. If parents are working it can be very lonely being at home studying if you're not used to it too.

BackforGood · 09/05/2012 22:41

Oh yes, I'm very glad that ds is expected to be in school right through his exams. Nothing would be done at home for weeks on end like when I was at school.

bruffin · 10/05/2012 19:56

Ds had a fab last day.
Everybody decorated their school shirts, some with sequins. Ds had a catseye design on the back and everybody signed it.
We walked home from the station together which was really nice as he was at his most chatty.

daffodilly2 · 11/05/2012 21:19

Ah! My son was a bit sad - feels school has gone too fast. had a nice last day though and went for a meal with a crowd tonight.

Can't believe my little babe is a handsome, smart, growing in confidence young man! Hurrah! We made compulsory school in one piece! He is doing really well and had a statement at 5( was a worrying time) but now is flourishing.

wine We deserve to celebrate. Smile
