Son going to Germany with school in July - I'm a bit frightened

My 13 year old is due to go to Germany by coach in July with school. I'm terrified after watching the recent news Sad I know I can't NOT let him go but god, how must those poor parents feel, it's really getting to me.
He went last year but they flew there which is generally safer (and I have a morbid fear of flying!!). Anyone elses DC's due to "coach it" abroad this year?

No - but my DD went skiing before Christmas. They flew to Milan then had a five hour coach journey through falling snow to get to the resort high up in the Alps. I prayed the whole time she was in transit that the coach driver would be sensible, and healthy.

Statistics still show coach travel to be safer than any other means of transport but my goodness, those poor children, and their poor parents.

So hard.

Yes, mine's just left today for France.

I do know what you mean - it's scary enough anyway sending them off, but a horrible tragedy like this is always going to add to the fear.

But events like this are still rare, and accidents can happen any day, anywhere, so I think you just have to sit on the fear, if you see what I mean.

Doesn't mean I won't be worrying about him every day, and will breathe a hugh sigh of releif when he's back, but it's such a brilliant opportunity. :)

Both DCs are coaching it to France with their respective schools in July.

Not that it will alleviate your concern but statistically children are more likely to come harm walking home from school or from being a passenger in your car.

My DS is in year 6 and going to France for a wek with his primary school. I am worried but mostly because it is his first time away from home without me. I wish he was going by plane and not coach. They are going under the tunnel because parents were worried about going on the ferry. You can only hope and pray things will be ok. I would not want him to miss out on the experience.

DS1 (12) is off to Germany in June by coach.

He is worried now. Sad I am trying to be rational.

mine is 11 and going abroad by bus with her orchestra in May.

They would be at MUCH higher risk travelling in lots of cars (that is why coach crashes make the news but car crashes do not)
and the risk is still infinitessimal.
Also, by the end of the Easter holidays they will have analysed the tacho and issued updated guidance to drivers to reduce the risk of a similar crash ever happening.
That tunnel might even be redesigned ...
