Ring the admissions dept and ask gone are the days when it was classified information! I doubt its higher than 60% maybe even 55% you also need to check whether or not this an average or on every paper and at what level for Maths and Latin (if they require it).

grovel · 21/02/2012 11:01

30% if you can kick a rugby ball.

60% if you can't.

happygardening · 21/02/2012 11:04

Now now grovel some people like Anthony Seddon?!

milkshake3 · 21/02/2012 11:21

I think it is 60% but you need to find out at what level they want maths, latin, english for CE (probably L2)....would have to agree with Grovel a bit, but would add that if you've swum the channel, played concert level music etc etc that probably helps too! Getting through the pre test is probably harder given the place is the current flavour of the month. The computer test in the pre test is very important...way more than the 10 minute interview in a room with 8 others...think speed dating. I'm not sure how they form a view of the children. AS is definitely looking for a step change in their results academically and the pressure is great once you are there. The place also empties at weekends and has a big London crowd.

happygardening · 21/02/2012 11:36

milkshake3 I'm sure the Op will be delighted with you over whelming endorsement of WC!

milkshake3 · 21/02/2012 11:45

Ha Ha! It is only because I was so shocked at how much of a conveyor belt the whole process was...do they care about getting to know the children? Other schools actually take time to do one on one interviews....I felt that was the one side of their "PR" they hadn't quite got right! On the other hand I know of others who love it....horses for courses!!

happygardening · 21/02/2012 11:54

The term PR and AS are synonymous; the man is PR personified. Although in fairness we too know of someone who is very happy there.

Colleger · 21/02/2012 12:20

I don't know why you'd ask anyone on here as probably 0.0001% of MN has a child there. Ask your prep or the school themselves!

Colleger · 21/02/2012 12:21

Otherwise you'll have somebody suggesting a school in darkest Peru that fits none of your criteria! Wink

propatria · 21/02/2012 12:54

Cant have a schools thread without at least one mention of Bedales[wink}

Colleger · 21/02/2012 13:09

Or...cough, splutter.. E...eeeeeeee....eeeeeeee...tttt...oooo...i?

HillyWallaby · 21/02/2012 13:17

Surely as they have a finite number of places there is no actual pass mark, but they just select the top scoring 100, or whatever their intake per year group is, with a bit of leeway allowed for a percentage of bursary students, a percentage of excellent sportsmen/musicians who may otherwise not make the grade, and ditto a percentage of children from highly inflential or high profile families, especially if they have a family history of going there.

Colleger · 21/02/2012 13:40

HillyWallaby, that is not how it works at all for common entrance!

bulletpoint · 21/02/2012 18:46

I've spoken to the school this morning, pass mark is 60% overall. Thank you.

AS told a prep head I spoke to recently that they will consider a lower CE pass if the prospective pupil can bring something extra - eg sporting or musical talent.

HillyWallaby · 23/02/2012 04:20

How does it work then? What happens if more people 'pass' than there are places for? Does it just come down to interviews?

happygardening · 23/02/2012 05:42

They dont. You've been offered a provisional place before you sit CE. Some schools take up refs interview and pre-test although not all pre-test before you it sit it usually the more academic do it up to two years in advance and then ask you to pay a deposit this can be up to a terms fees. You sit CE in June of the year you start. Others don?t interview they just take up refs usually again in the academic year before you start. Again you will be asked to pay a deposit. When entered in for the exam in Feb/March before sitting it in June you confirm which school is your first choice and the exam papers are sent there for the school to mark. The school states often on its website what its CE requirement is obviously the more academic the school the higher the mark required. It?s not a perfect system but I suspect better than the system outlined on many 11+ posting on MN. Your head has usually given you strong advise about which school is suitable for your child.

Colleger · 23/02/2012 07:36

Some schools have a registration process based on first come first served, although I'm not sure how that would work with co-ed.

HillyWallaby · 23/02/2012 12:25

Oh Ok, thanks! I geddit now. I imagined it would be like 11+ where people often assume there is a 'pass mark' but it is always a very movable feast depending on each cohort.
