Hi Hoping people can give me some hints/advice. On wednesday I have got an interview for the post of Cover Supervisor at a local senior school. I am to go at 8.30 and have been told to expect the interview process to take all day
I am a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant but its been a couple of years since I worked in a senior school.
The Deputy head has said the morning will consist of tour of the school, interview by pupils and teaching a lesson. If I do well on this I will then be chosen to go forward to the afternoon interview with the Head Teacher
I would really appreciate any help/advice regarding teaching the cover lesson /kids interview...in fact any part of this interview process..Especially thinking about how to deliver the lesson, discipline
It's been a while since I worked as have been a SAHM but now would like to get back into my career. Very nervous (seem to have lost all my confidence since being at home)
Hoping to get some replies
Jools

I was CS for 4 years. The most important skill is classroom management: you must act with the students as though you are 100% confident in your skills and your authority. (Make yourself believe it: ditch the nerves now.)

Check with the school what is the norm for the start of a lesson - eg lining up at the door, etc. Always err on the side of more strict, more formal. Presumably some top brass will be observing your lesson, so you can expect the kids to fall into line quite easily.

Use your personality, sense of humour, gain rapport with the students. Smile, introduce yourself. Insist on high standards.

Good luck!

Agree. Confidence is key (or at this stage at least the appearance of confidence!). And when the pupils interview you, be interested in them - ask questions, don't just let them make you answer theirs.

Good luck.
