Is this the D&T one? If it's the one I'm thinking of DD was considering going for it but in the end decided that she no longer wanted to take D&T as an A level choice. If she had gone for it I think it would have been very good when the time comes for uni application as it would help to stand her out from the crowd. However I think if you are awarded one at a private school it doesn't cover any fee remission.

Yes probably the same one. From what I can gather they don't have to take an engineering/dt subject at A level just subjects that lead to an engineering type degree including maths.

We only found out about it yesterday and the application has to be in by friday. DS was going more down a science route, then had a sort of light bulb moment about his career and now wants to be an acoustic engineer.

It's definitely worth applying, better apply and decide later than not to and regret it.

Thanks, he will apply.

I hope nobody minds a shameless bump, to see if anyone else has applied.

Hopefully taking it as a good sign that nobody has heard of it and there are not too many applications Grin

Just found there were 909 applications with 298 awarded, so a 1 in 3 chance which doesn't sound too bad.
Apologies for talking to myself!

I know 2 teens that applied, one got it and one didn't. As I recall you had to pay to apply and then sit an exam.

bruffin · 19/01/2012 13:38

DS's school are paying for him and one other pupil to apply, but it is all very last minute.

It sounds promising, the school obviously think he has a fair chance. Nothing to lose by trying. Good luck!
