How would you feel if your DC's were in year 10 and were given leaflets by the school listing information/websites on sexually transmitted diseases, using condoms to prevent STI's, FPC/GUM clinics, general advise about sex and staying healthy and support re: sexuality both hetrosexual and homosexual etc.
I'm trying to do a straw poll.

I am absolutely fine with it, and Y 10 is not too early for this important possibly life saving subject to be introduced, DS is 17 now, I just hope something he learnt has actually stack somewhere in his mind and it will serve him well.
We have been talking the talk for few years now in a casual way with DS, and even these days before an outing or party with his friends, I have no problem with reminding him "Be careful, make sure you have everything you need with you, full mobile battery, money for bus, condoms"
In 21st century, being prude will take you nowhere, reality of the situation is DC's needs to be aware and able to protect themselves.
And yes JekylandHydeMum shock tactics used by schools can be upsetting for some children, I was one of those in my secondary school days, but these tactics have their place, they are there to shock, scare and get etched in the young mind.Sad
Harsh but effective, hopefully.

The info leaflet is being given out at the end of the talk along with other stuff.
