Same entrance exam on a different day?

My ds is sitting his entrance exam on tuesday at a school that has already held one exam day last friday. Does anyone know if you get the same exam on both days - or would they have a complete new set of Maths, English &VR?

Why, are you planning to ask someone what the questions were in Friday's exam? :o

I can't help thinking they would have to use different papers to avoid cheating.

Mrshighandmighty · 08/01/2012 16:59

Would you think me awful if I said it was worth a try?

Well, not awful but if your son requires you to cheat to get in then he is going to struggle once he is there. It would not be in his best interests at all.

mrshighandmighty i think you can safely assume thst the papers WILL be different.

Mrsrobertduvall · 08/01/2012 19:33

Good grief. Shock

bachsingingmum · 09/01/2012 14:29

Indeed! And in any case, even if the papers were the same, why would the parent of a child who sat the exam last week be willing to hand over papers to a child sitting it later and give them an advantage over their own child?

mrshighandmighty, when my DD sat her 11+ back in September, I knew that in case of illness the test could be sat a few days later. And I fantasised about getting hold of those papers.

All impossible, of course. But it doesn't make you an awful person to think it.

stillfeel18inside · 09/01/2012 16:20

mrshighandmighty - I remember your name from 2 years ago when both our oldest (I think?) DSs were taking the 11+. We're now on the same old merrygoround with DS2. How's it going? I remember you made me smile last time and made the whole thing a bit easier. As for the exam paper, my DS took one on Friday but couldn't tell me a thing about it on coming out of the exam! (Don't think you can really rely on a 10-year old with exam espionage..)

We had experience of different schools having the same paper. School 1 (our 3rd choice) - DD wasn't happy with one of the papers so before the next school test I downloaded some example papers and we went through them with techniques etc. When she came out of School 3 (her 1st choice) she had a smile on her face and couldn't wait to tell me that one of the papers was the same and she did so much better that time. She got a place! But even now she is convinced that she "cheated". I think it was just good luck.

We can all fantasize about giving our DCs a bit of a helping hand. We KNOW they are fully capable, but we also know they are fallible and can make very silly mistakes - "the examiner will not think that you really knew the answer and make allowances for it like I do" is a sentence I have oft repeated to my DS. So any little advantage you can get is desirable, if on the dodgy side! I am sure you won't cheat in this way anyway, but no harm imagining how it would be if you could, or if you had a crystal ball! My own DS just did his exams and could remember very little to tell me except for one maths question on simoultaneous equations, which he had got right! I was so pleased, as we had practised that in the run up and he actually got one! Unlike the cubes and codes in NVR which did not turn up at all!

Certainly for any schools I've had dealings with, they have had different papers for the back up day. At the school I know best, they only offer scholarships for those candidates who sit the first exam, so that everyone is compared on an equal footing. I can't imagine any school using the same papers for both exams, TBH, just to cover themselves from accusations of cheating etc. Given how much security there is to stop cheating at GCSE, I am sure they are all well aware of the possibility...

Mrshighandmighty · 09/01/2012 23:04

Well ok ... it was only a fantasy ... boys are so rubbish at giving feedback anyway it was never going to be more than a general view of levels of difficulty ... (now slinking away browbeaten and chastised ...)

Stillfeel18 ..! How'do? Wasnt just yesterday we were talking - where did two years go? My eldest is in his second year at Emanuel in Clapham and loving it - so it did all work out in the end ... like they said it would!
