Offers Day 1st March 2012

Anyone else feeling like we do about the impending Offers Day?

Not at all a foregone conclusion that DS will get into any of first five choices (all selective, two 11+ passes, one 11+ result due this coming week) so rather up in the air.... Sixth choice is okayish but DS has talked it down to the point that he is now desperately hoping it's not his one and only choice! Otherwise DS is being quite mature about considering that he could end up at any of the schools and is already thinking about which friends from primary school he is likely to stay in touch with etc.....

It all feels a bit as if life is on hold till 1st March.....

Don't take my word for it Grin as could have imagined it in a haze of red wine!

Can someone help us out here????

Yes, it seems too, too much of a tease to be true....and as I said it apparently will crash virtually immediately......(tears hair out at the thought!)

Why don't they do it in the middle of the night instead?????

Don't suppose that because there's a 29th day in Feb this year, they might get their act together and have results out first thing.....

What on earth is their rationale for posting the results so late in the day.....!AAAARGH!

Think you are right CustardCake - so it's across the board that it doesn't go live until that time - not just in London? Think you are right to be cynical - in which case why not just send letters out - usual case of technology working against us

Last day in Jan so the count down has really started now. I'm feeling really nervous and not sure I want to know anymore Confused

gazzalw · 31/01/2012 16:36

That month since Christmas has gone in a flash! Only 30/29 days to wait...... of course we are assuming the agony will all be over then but it might just be beginning (hmmmm)

Hello everyone! Just joined and this is my first ever post! Mumwithtwokids, I can definitely relate! I am so nervous and just want the whole thing over and done with. I will have to look at the email on 1st March through half closed eyes!

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 10:41

Justmumof1 - It's our first time going through this and really don't know what to expect. Called my LEA who confirmed that results won't be out until 5pm on the day so I've taken the day off :)

justmumof1 · 01/02/2012 10:48

My first time too mumwithtwokids, 1st March is a Thursday so have taken Friday off, just in case I need to chain myself to the Town Hall railings! The hardest thing of all at the moment is that I don't want to plague the other Mums in the playground by talking about it too much....just counting down the days!

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 10:57

OMG - I'm exactly the same. Really need to talk to someone about it but can't as most of my colleagues at work don't have kids and most mother's at school already have a sibling at secondary so they don't have to worry.

Hadn't thought about taking the Friday off, might do that too. I'm just dreading what I'll see on the 1st.

justmumof1 · 01/02/2012 11:10

I'm right there with you! Glad to have a place to share this burden with! Will check in every few days to see how everyone is bearing up. Hang in there folks!

sandyballs · 01/02/2012 11:15

I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that the email/letter on 1st March will not be our first choice, but in the second round (April time) we will get it. My reason for this is I've been speaking to a lot of people round here who don't even plan to send their kids to this school, they are hoping for the grammers or private but put it down as a back up. So they'll refuse it and we'll be offered their places. So I'm not going to be too upset on 1st March, but will be very disappointed if we don't get in on the second allocation.

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 11:24

Hi sandyballs - Is there more than one round of allocations?

madgirl · 01/02/2012 11:39

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 11:49

Thanks for that - makes sense. Maybe there is a chance of us getting our first choice after all :)

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 11:55

madgirl - I'm in SW london too

sandyballs · 01/02/2012 12:22

I'm in SW London too! My neighbour works in admisisons and says that it is all sorted out now, so why don't they put us out of our misery Sad,

sandyballs · 01/02/2012 12:22

I'm on the Croydon/Surrey border.

mumwithtwokids · 01/02/2012 12:48

I'm on the Sutton/Kingston border.

Sandyballs - any chance we can bribe your friend?

prh47bridge · 01/02/2012 12:58

Some LAs actually have a formal second round, although it is somewhat questionable whether or not such a process complies with the Admissions Code.

sandyballs - The last government set 1st March as the national offer date for secondary schools, so LAs can't release information before then even if they are ready. I think I'm right in saying you can blame your namesake Ed (if you follow me Smile).

justmumof1 · 01/02/2012 13:12

I am in Redbridge.
